I can't claim 99mpg then - that's cheap. I'm sorry but sustaining 70mph in 6th gear and claiming that as your average MPGs is NOT accurate what so ever. The moment you come to a complete stop and take off you're going to lose MPGs. If it was as easy as getting to speed on the freeway and then resetting the meter wouldn't you think all the OEMs would do that?

That said - I understand the point of what the OP is doing to get a baseline before putting the CAI in. But if you then turn around and tell everyone you get 30mpgs on average, that's VERY misleading. Might as well slap an SS badge on it while you're at it.
Not misleading, are you aware of the way the EPA qualifies (30)HWY MPG?

I understand that one of the factors the EPA uses is sustained speeds on a warm engine, but it also includes stop and go as part of the testing.

That's exactly what I have been saying all along. I base my mileage on what I get per tankful not individual trips. We can skew numbers anyway till sunday but the bottom line is what it costs to fill up and how far we were able to travel.

Please see other posts regarding same topic.

This is not about total tank MPG.

Go to other threads to post about that topic as this is a completely different topic. Thanks.

I would guess that if the OP does the same test under the same conditions temp, speed, resetting the DIC at the same time after he installs the Varaam he should be able to tell if it makes any difference in the MPG's under those conditions.

Now will that tell him a CAI will improve his overall MPG's no but it should give him some information to digest for the test he did.

This is usually because a lot of CAIs aren't really CAIs.

A HAI usually improves mileage. A CAI decreases it, as all of your accelerations are faster and use more fuel (even with cruise control on, making up for small and slight variances). The car doesn't adjust to this, and if it has "more power" to work with, it's going to accelerate faster, which is going to use more fuel. If your CAI doesn't actually improve power at all because it's not really a CAI, then you might even see some gains.

Just a quick update: My daily commute to work has been detoured due to interstate construction. Maybe 3 more weeks and I'm back to tracking it again. Maybe in the hotter weather we'll see some difference.
