Walk.

Haha kidding, but if you have a manual make under 2k shifts regularly, and coast to lights in neutral. That's what I do and it works for me.

Building off what he said, if you have a lot of stop and go and you're reving a bit because it's fun, you get terrible gas mileage. I get like 8mpg with my v6 around my college, and 30mpg on the interstate.

Drive slower, shift at a lower RPM or skip gears, allow more distance from the car in front of you so you aren't constantly hitting the brakes(slowing down) then having to accelerate back up to speed. Wax your car more often for more wind resistance...LOL...Kidding...Its all about your driving habits man. If you drive like an old lady you should have no problem meeting or exceeding your cars MPG ratings...

Remove all stickers. Yes, you'll lose hp, but gain mpg. Good answer on the windows! LOL

You don't say the number of miles you have on the cars odometer or the milage you are getting. They say cars don't start getting good milage until they reach 20-30,000 miles. Tire pressure is another important factor.

Your mpg is going to be low if you do alot of stop-n-go city driving, there's no way to get around that. Go easy on the take offs and keep an eye on traffic ahead of you.

When buying a car, remember don't expect to get the milage ratings posted on the window sticker. Those numbers are obtained under controlled, ideal driving conditions.

Every time you use the brakes you are wasting forward momentum that gas had to earn.

Use the brakes less often. To add to what was posted above, let off the gas and coast as much as you can when you see a red light or stop sign coming. There is the added benefit that if the light changes while you are slowly approaching you don't have to use as much gas to get back up to speed. Hitting the brakes at any time wastes momentum that your gas paid for. Use them sparingly and effectively, don't ride them.

Cruise control can help. Steady speed is better than speed up & slow down that we are all guilty of while trying to hover at our chosen speed.

As was already said, drive slower when you aren't in a hurry. Lower speeds and less romp and stomp on the pedals with make a big difference in your MPG.

Not quite... I've exceeded my sticker mpg on average since I bought it. City and Highway, it's all driver... if it gets better at that mileage, then I'll take it, but I'm doing on average 30mpg highway and I don't remember city, but it's higher than the 8mpg posted above.

Several things. First, only run 100% syn oil.

Always use premium (I know the owners manual says 87, but with premium the knock sensors are not pulling timing and it allows the motor to run at optimine tune).

Install one of the few GOOD functioning oil separating catchcans. The oil ingestion causes detonation and poor power & economy. On the avg modern passenger car or light truck we see 1-3 MPG improvement if you eliminate the oil ingestion into the intake air charge.

Drive easy.

And skip shifts when appropriate. If below 40mph, windows down is fine for cooling, if above 50, use the A/C. Don't cruise at 50+ with windows down, that kills mpg. When you skip-shift to accelerate, you really start to see how "everyone else" accelerates way too fast and kills their own mpg.

I have changed my driving habits and there is some good advice posted here . I try to keep my rpm's below 2500 and coast as much as possible . I don't take off hard from a stop . I have increased my mpgs and I am now getting about 18.5 mpg's in the city . Stop and go all the time and a 10 mile commute to work . If you pay attention to how you drive your mpg's will improve quite a bit . Good luck ....

I believe CAI adds 2-3mpg or something like that? also, getting a chip can increase mpg too

You can get a tune, there are no "chips" for modern cars. If you buy one for any new car your getting ripped off. Older cars had chips because the ROM chip on the computers board could be removed. So you could swap out with one that had a high performance tune and swap back if you needed warranty work done. They started solding them on sometime in the late 80's or early 90's so you couldn't change them out. Now you have to get a tune, which can be seen even if you flash back to stock.

I've played around with that a little bit, and does work. but the problem I had was I would drive like that for awhile, get the MPG up 2-3, but then just one instance of flooring it and all those gains evaporated. :(

50 miles of MPG driving erased with one 10 second takeoff. so I say f' it. no way I'm going to be able to drive like that always.

You didn't say if your car was a stick or not but one little thing you can do with a stick is to drop it into neutral when coming to a stop like on a highway off ramp, rpms will drop at least a 1000 by doing this and over time that will help. Other than that your driving habits make a big difference like taking off or speeding up quickly versus easing into, but many would say why buy a camaro if you are going to drive like an old lady? If you want to go with mods then start with a cai. I picked up 1-2mpg, in addition to some pop, when I put on my cold air inductions cai. so this mod will more than cover the initial investment so it should be at the top of your list. Recently I put new rims and a new cat back exhaust on and I picked up some power and gas mileage of up to .5 mpg, these mods dropped a bunch of weight and the exhaust increased air flow plus it sounds awesome.
