High octane fuel

I have a question, Im going to the local dragstrip tonight to bust my cherry on running a car down the 1/4 mile and I see they sell 100 octane fuel if you want to put some in the tank. I am wondering if this is safe to do with my car or will it hurt some stuff like 02 sensors or pistons or whatever. I am clueless about this and thought it would be good to ask first before i do it. Also would it even benifit my car at all. Only mods so far are a vararam intake and flowmaster cat back exhaust. And what should I expect to see for time and speeds.
Thanks

Unless you tune your car for 100 octane don't expect much. It won't hurt your car but it won't benefit you really either. I run two tunes in my car. I have 91 octane tune and a 100 octane tune. Even with it tuned, the 100 octane only netted me about 5RWHP and 3RWT. So nothing to write home about. You want to make a difference run E85..

Don't waste your money. Put premium in it and go. Only if you had HIGH compression then you would want higher octane.

Actually, continued use will eventually burn your valves. 100+ is meant for engines built for the kind of heat/compression produced by this level of octane. The problem you may face is the risk of dropping a valve. Because your combustion is retarded with higher octane, without a tune with this grade if your exhaust valve can open while the fuel is igniting.....you guessed it; it blows the valve.

LIke other say, just run a good grade of top fuel premium, which the engine was designed for.

Wow man that was fun, just came in from running all night. I got seven runs in with a low time of 13.1 and a high speed of 107.17. I am definatly going to do this more often. My best reaction time was .269 Im not sure if thats good or not , but it was cool trying to get my times down and the speed up. I really wanted to break into the 12s, but it got too late and the track was cooling off a bit so traction was off a little and the nice cold air was making more power so i spun em a lil bit on launch.
All I can say is that if youve never taken your car to the track yet .... DO IT
I beat the heck out of my buddie and his mustang, but hes cool and he woulda beat me if his car was as fast. He did have consistantly better reaction times then I did.
I also got to beat a BMW and an Acura those were the two races that made me smile when I won because i had no idea what I was up against.

Good numbers there! I'm going to the track next weekend and I'll be happy with like a 13.7 or 13.5, lol, being it's my first time on the track!

Anyways, glad to hear you enjoyed yourself, that's what it's all about!

What??? That is .

Tell that to all the L88 or original ZL1 ('69) owners. They run 103 octane from the factory. There is no special valve out there to prevent the valves from burning up. Even then, you usually hear people burning up valves by running too lean of a fuel mixture. As for tuning, you can get a carburetor close to perfect, but there is no way you can have everything so precise like EFI. Therefore, with what you're saying, that would give more of a reason for the L88's and ZL1's to "burn a valve."

Dropping a valve is entirely something different that is not even remotely related to fix mixture or fuel used.. I am sorry. I do not know who told you this, but the fed you a line of bull ....

As for what other say, I agree. Running 100 octane would be pointless unless the engine actually needed it. I have a much hotter big block in my vette than the LS3 in my camaro, and my big block runs just fine 93.

make sure it is not leaded. usually only 105+ is leaded though. and you will not see much benefit, but it might run a little smoother. on high compression engines you must always run 100, 91 will cause damage. thats why it is always there.

E85 make a difference? I din't think you could use anything other than premium. Please inform.

e85 eats fuel lines and o-rings. you have to convert several parts to run it, then of course a tune
