I do not have any grind, but I am to about 20k miles on my car and it is getting more and more notchy going into 2,3,4 gears. Is this a clutch problem? Or is this typical for the transmission?

I would check the pressure plate bolts first.. had a similar issue.. general consesus is if its more than 1 to 2 it might be other faults also.. i would need to test your car to compare it with mine..

Make sure your clutch fluid is clean. if it looks dirty have it flushed out.

I just dropped my car off at the dealer. I told them about my 2nd gear grind. they are going to have my car until at least monday. Hopefully they have some thing to report by then... Like "Mr. Schwartz, we just went ahead and gave you a new transmission". That would be SWEET!

I know it wont happen :(

I have a grind on the 1-2 shift only at high rpm. Thats the only issue I have. I am on the list to get the modified booster and hopefully that will solve the issue. my car has 5k miles on it. I plan to change the transmission fluid in the near future.

Transmission fluid change will not fix it for sure.. I should know I am on my second tranny... and I have tried that...
The thing that worked for me was IDEALG's master cylinder...

Extremely hard time.. Long story but this is my last GM...

Basically due to the clutch malfunction the tranny goes bad.. I highly recommend replacing your master clutch cylinder...
Look at my video I am shifting at 7000 rpm without any issues

As far I am concerned my car is still fixed ...Still driving it in full force... Love it...
Replacing the master cylinder did the trick for me and I firmly believe it will do the trick for others.

1-2 grind at higher rpm

I've had this issue happen about three times last year. the other five gears shift like butter. so I make sure I'm in second before standing on the throttle. Also my down-shifts are very hard if not impossible into second. Last August I changed the fluid (royal purple) it did not fix the issue. I was planning on some moly-slip additive only after I talked to the rep. Still haven't added the moly-slip. I read about the first 5 pages and decided to call the dealer first, as this seems to be a wide spread issue. My service guy (Dave) suggested I have gm pick up the tab. But like most of you I don't want to part with my baby even if it's for a week or two. It's booked in for May 1st, I'm crossing the ole fingers.
I'll check back to this thread and try to keep you all updated.

9093 miles and at the dealer getting new syncros, and 2ond gear replaced. Dealer was very helpful. Took it around the block and gave me a rental car... HOPEFULLY this does the trick.

What a bummer!

I just got my car and it only has 2500 miles on it. Shifting in low gears is notchy and a high RPM shift from 1st to second .....no go. It just wont go in. This sucks. Happens on and off. From what I am reading .....dealers dont do anything and if they do its not a real fix anyway....great.

Just got my car back from the dealer and no joy. They told me everything is normal and because I have a short throw shifter gear clash will happen. There is even a bulletin out for cars with short throw shifters/gear clash so they showed me that.

At least you guys are getting your transmissions fixed. I'm not.

Try the master cylinder fix.. Dude it did for me.. I had the exact same issue once they fixed my tranny.. Changed the cylinder with the one made by IDEALG and presto I have a working transmission.
Also what i noticed on mine is that they did not bleed the clutch slave properly. Might want to have someone else bleed it..

5 qts of Redline D4 ATF really helped my M6 shift more smoothly. Especially noticeable at the strip. Amazon.com has it. My cold 1-2 shifts are greatly improved as well.

I have some master cylinders ready if any of you are interested. look me up in the sponsor market place under transmisson and you'll see the thread.

like i've said before make sure you fluid is clean and bled properly and make sure your clutch hydraulic lines aren't laying against the trans bellhousing. The bellhousing gets very hot and could be part of the problem. I noticed my clutch line was laying against my bellhousing so i removed the whole line and put thermo-sleeve over it then reinstalled the line . The thermo-sleeve will help keep the heat away from the line.

thermo-sleeve is made by cool it. part number 14010 you'll find it at summit or jegs and probably local auto parts like pep boys and autozone.

Any recently updated advice on what to do when a dealer shuts you down for repair or part replacement as they claimed that the pause needed between shifting gears is normal 'for this car'? I had explained the bind and grind issues and they drove it and reported the TSB on the syncro's explains that it is normal behavior and a longer pause is needed between gears when shifting!
