Question 45th Anniversary Snow Tires

Hi all,

I am new to the forum but have read so many articles on here in the past. Such a good resource.

I wanted to ask a quick question regarding what snow tire options there are on the Camaro 45th Convertible 2SS. I am moving to Indiana from England and as such have no experience driving in the snow. I therefore feel that snow tires are a must.

What size rims can I buy and what tires are recommended.

This might sound like a stupid question but if I buy smaller rims, do I have to change anything on the odometer or do I buy larger rimmed tires to compensate?

Michael

Reach out to the guys @ tirerack, they are awesome. I switched my stock P-zeros' out for 17" Pirreli Snow tires and rims and they were awesome

As long as the replacement tires have the same overall diameter as the P-Zeros ( 28.7" ) the speed/odometer should not change. Check out this thread http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106945 Also the first time it snows you might want to very gently drive to a wide open parking lot and practice starting stoping and turning in the snow. I live in Indy and the first snow every year is a zoo.

with an SS you will probably have to stay with 20 inch rims to clear the brake calipers. I used Pirelli Winter's. work very well. Just take it easy at first until you get the feel of them.

Is that true? For SS cars you need the min of 20 inch rims?

Thanks guys. I'll get in touch with Tirerack when I emigrate.

So excited about buying a Camaro!

Indykid - practicing in a car park sounds like a good idea. Also, is there a group of camaro owners who regularly meet in Indy? Be good to meet some people when I arrive.

Slightly confused about needing 20" rims on the 2SS. I thought that was only for the 2011 and earlier models.

Indykid - thanks for that. Much appreciated. I shall take a look. I would love to make the Camarofest III however I am getting married in Carmel on the 4th August (hence the reason for my emigration).

Will definitely take an active part in the Indiana group - hopefully meet when at one of the events.

Once again, thanks for your help.

You can fit 18" rims on an SS - see user SUX2BU, but you need a large offset and/or narrow rims. Good idea being proactive, Snow and Ice tires will make a big difference.
