SS vs. Ford Lightning

Was just wondering because I ran against one around September of last year before I had any mods and the Lightning pulled quick. I may have started gaining on him but his launch won the race. Im not sure if this guy had modded his but I would have thought so and I don't know the year assuming an 04' or around that year. How would a SS, A6 with LT headers, cai, and a tune match up with a Ford Lightning?

Second Gen Lightning's usually run mid to low 13's stock. They can be made fast very cheap and easy. Most Lightning's you see are going to be modded. Good luck with the race but I think you will lose.

Oh, I'm not racing one again. I mean maybe if I come across one when I go to the track but this was just an, "I wonder what would happen" type question.

The hard part will be to find a stock Lightning, I went to a dyno day awhile back and they had 3 of them putting down 600+ rwhp.

OP it will all come down to what mods are done to the Lightning on what your chances are.

Stock Lightnings usually run mid to high 13s or so. They can run faster, but mid to high 13s is what I see from them at Lightning track events (stock). On average, they are not as fast (stock vs stock) as a Camaro SS.

My bone stock 99z28 beat my buddies stock Lightning everytime we raced.

With your current setup, you should easily beat a stock Lightning. Even when you were stock, you had an advantage over one.

But most Lightnings (guys that race and go to the track) are modded. They respond well to mods and there are a lot of fast ones out there.

I have a good friend with one, dyno'd at 600rwhp, ran 13+ in the 1/4. The back end is too light and the whole thing is a boat.

Your SS should handle him pretty easy so long as you're a decent driver and the weather conditions are decent. Supercharged applications tend to fair a bit better than N/A when the weather sucks. I ran (i guess a stock lightning) this past Friday.

We both got crappy launches and he ran a 14.1, I ran a 14.4. We raced again. I pulled a 13.9, he ran a 13.5.

I'm sure even stock you can take him (if he's stock also)

Like mentioned above, the later Lightnings run mid/low 13's stock in perfect conditions. Most drivers in regular conditions will be running high 13's/low 14's. Stock SS Camaros should beat them pretty easily if driven right.

Sure its not your trucks ability to put down all of its power instantly off the line due to it being 4wd vs 2wd?

Lightnings typically trap higher then Duramax's

. I remember watching a moderately modded Duramax running mid-high 9s in 2wd, then she switched to 4wd and instant mid 8s lol. My inconsistent ass was pulling high 8s to mid 9s in the SS.

That or the 20 psi boosted launch. At 25 to 30 psi 4wd doesn't do sh1t.

I'm not even going to start arguing trap speed

I thought were were talking about traction limited models. Lightnings can 60' with the best of them with the right tire.
Can you 60' like this?

20psi is also the magic number when launching my CTD, anything more then that is just a waste and can lead to breakage.
