Spied: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Our spy photographers have just sent us the first images of Chevrolet’s next-generation Silverado 1500 pickup truck. Seen here in extended cab guise, the new Silverado will arrive for the 2014 model year.

Internally known as the K2XC, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in these photos is easily identified by its six-lug wheels. Chevy’s Heavy Duty truck models ride on eight-lug axles.

Although still mostly covered in camouflage, we can make out some of the details of the truck’s front end, including a honeycomb grille treatment and a pronounced center bar. Chevy has been doing away with center grille bars on its passenger vehicles, so it’s possible this could become a signature truck design cue.

A chrome front bumper is also visible.

The 2014 Silverado 1500 is expected to be one of the first vehicles to be equipped with General Motors’ new Gen V small block V8. We’ve yet to hear just how many liters the new V8 will displace, but the new mill will boast technologies like aluminum construction, direct-injection and cylinder deactivation.

Full article and images at link.

These are the first shots we've seen of the heavy-duty GM trucks. From all we've been hearing, the light-duty trucks will come out first, but it makes sense that GM would also get its three-quarter- and one-ton models ready, too.

The frame doesn't seem to be much different, but given the tailpipe, there is likely a new gas engine under the hood. Likewise, with so much camo on the front end, we're guessing GM is experimenting with some kind of active grille and new design. And we're hearing plenty of speculation about a new transmission as well.

Some reports have the half-ton models scheduled for production by summer 2013, with the 2500 and 3500 models coming on-line closer to the end of 2013. That would mean we're likely to see something close to the real thing at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, with possible backgrounder events on topics such as powertrain, chassis and fuel economy tech before that.

I'm surprised Left Lane didn't say that it will have a 5.5L V8. Good for them.

Anyway, while its impossible to tell anything from those pics, I somehow get the feeling that these trucks are going to have a more 'traditional' look to them than the current ones, which would be a good thing

Full size trucks don't make for midsize SUVs.

He (I assume) is asking about next gen Tahoes, Suburbans, and Yukons which are currently built off the 1/2 ton truck platform.

What are the sales figures for Tahoe and Suburban lately? Are they doing well?

for 2011 they were 80k and 50k respectively, up by 5k each from 2010. Those were the two best selling models for GM's full size SUV fleet. Total sales last year were around 210k among all 3 brands selling them (235 if you want to include the Avalanche and Escalade ESV). The total volume was about the same for 2010

So they are not in trouble then. Suburban has never ended production so I dont think GM would ever axe it. Tahoe on the other hand I could see going away if needed.

About time for the 3.6L. The 4.3L is a dog 20 years past its prime.

i just wish they'd design some rear wheel wells for it. one of the things i hate about the GM and Ford full size trucks is that unfinished look around the rear tires, and being able to see all the way through the truck between the bed/frame.

4.3 isn't so bad, but yeah it's past it's prime. but i wonder if the 3.6 is kind of complex and expensive for a base truck engine.

But when you make about a million per year, the per-unit cost comes down pretty good, even for a high tech engine
