Heater Fan Ticking Sound

I had a ticking, jingling sound coming from the heater vent for some time. I was pretty sure it was coming from there since it was worse when the fan was at the lowest two speeds. It mostly stopped when I turned the fan off.

I brought the sexy beast in for a regular oil change and told them about this sound. After they were done, the receipt said that they cleaned dirt and debris from the blower motor cage. The sound is gone - at least for now.

Does anyone know where the blower motor cage is located. I'd like to know so that I can periodically clean it myself?

I’ve only had my Camaro for a few months and been noticing the same or similar noise. When I listen to the radio I hear winding, gearing noise coming from the speakers or the front dash. It occurs when my heater is on the lowest level of 1, 2, or 3. When I turn the heater (fan) off, the noise goes away. I’m not due for service to later summer/early fall, so if I can clean it myself, that would be great. I don’t know where the location is either.

The HVAC blower fan is located behind the cabin air filter. Here is a link on how to remove the filter:

Have the same sound. Once you hear it, it's pretty annoying and have turn the air either up or off to make it stop. I thought it was normal to be honest. Glad to know its not, and i can prob fix it myself.

I just had my blower motor replaced this weekend for the same issue. It is more of a common issue and if you complain about it and demonstrate it to the dealer they should replace the core.

The chirping at the lowest two notches was annoying as heck for me. It was hard to reproduce it in the dealer garage because my exhaust was loud, but once I took them outside they could hear it. It's even more noticeable if you're driving and you don't really hear your exhaust.

Did you click this link?
The motor is right behind the filter.

I knew I wasn't the only one with this problem. I'm taking mine in to get fixed. I thought it was lubrication issue like on my older car.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Well,

The HVAC motor is actually molded into the plastic. They have to order it. It comes with an installation ring to hold it in place.

Same here as far as the problem. I am going to follow the thread posted by LimaCharlie and try cleaning the cabin filter and blower motor cage to see if it makes a difference. Ill let you know how it works out. I dont trust the dealer to do it right.

Diagram request

When I first asked about cleaning the HVAC blower fan, LimaCharlie wrote back with a link showing how to remove the filter
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...BIN+AIR+FILTER
The link is no longer there. Can someone repost?

Thanks.

Diagram request

I found the diagram on another page within Camaro5 at
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...01&postcount=1

There's also a youtube video on replacing it at
"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymul7T3hC5Y"

Here is the diagram plus an additional diagram I found elsewhere

Just had mine replaced, for the second time. The first time the cut the cowl to big and jb welded the fan back in, took it to another dealer and they had to pull the windshield and dash to repair the cowl. 3 weeks in the making. Just got it back. They installed motor kit # 22762719, this is the new updated kit. Dealer said they are having bushing issues with the stock fan making it chirp. The bolt and plate to mount the fan do not come in the fan kit, they had to order them separately. Glad this was covered under warrenty!

I had the ticking noise too, but it stopped after around 10K, no problems now.

Had the same issue and after so many trips to the dealer, they finally replaced the blower and that took care of it. its been months now and I don't have that issue anymore, hopefully it doesn't come back cause it was annoying to hear it at the low 1 or 2, but I'm glad to see that we can clean it and hope that works.

Been having the same issue on mine. 73k on her now, seems to be getting worse. Really annoying to have to put the fan on high or off. Or, just drive around in 3rd all the time, then you can't hear it either!!! Have to check out the filter and see. Thanks for the info!

If you would like me to research the issue you are having, please feel free to contact me via PM. I would love to gather more details. From there, we can see if there are any options available to you.
