How difficult it is to install the side markers? I'm trying to figure out if this is something I can accomplish or if I need to take it to a shop.

It takes about 5 minutes, maybe 10 min for your first time

Painted mine yesterday, installed today.

I ordered the clear but they do not sell them anymore I guess so I opted for the tinted. I taped off the back and the strip of LEDs and shot it with a few coats of adhesion promotor. Once that dried I hit it with about 8 coats of IOM paint, letting each coat dry in between. Then I peeled the tape strip off and shot it with 3 light coats covering the exposed area. After that dried I put about 6 coats of clear on it to seal it all in. A professional would have probably done a better job, they would have been able to hide the strip more. But I think it came out great for only costing me $35.

Heres a few pics of the process:
