My car was purchased 3/16/12

I called and gave them my VIN, they said there was currently nothing in the system for my car.

Maybe they fixed this?

2012 Camaro's SDM Recall

I don't know if this is the right spot or not. Not sure if someone already posted.

I just got a letter from Chevy saying the SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module) can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate on the 2012 module year Camaro's. It DOES NOT affect the performance of the airbags. They told me I have until 4/30/2014 to get it done at no charge. All they need to do is reprogram the SDM.

P.S. I had a 2012 1LS but it does not specifically say it is just the 1LS.

I am in the same boat. I haven't received any info at all from GM or my dealer about the recall. Also my airbag light is not going off. I read the official bulletin and we have until 04/2014 to get it fixed for free.

Specific recalls don't necessarily affect all Camaros of the same model year. If GM sends you a notice, you're affected, get it done. Or you can call your dealer's service department and they can run your VIN in the system and tell you if your car is involved in the recall. I believe that Rick Morris has offered to do this for us as well, as he posted the offer in another thread.

Yeah I just noticed I got the year wrong lol. I just assumed it was 2012 without looking at the year. Yeah, it is 4.30.2014

As was said above, if you didn't get the letter then your car is not affected. If you want to be reassured, call to dealership and give them your VIN.

The check airbag notice in the DIC came on last week. Took the car to the dealer and they needed to order the part, which came in two days ago. Looks like I should expect a letter in the mail.

I feel you on that. I HATEEEE bringing my car into the dealership. The last two times that I brought it in, I had a huge sign hanging from the rear view mirror that says, "DO NOT WASH CAR, THANKS!". Those retards ended up washing it anyways and I had a BUTLOAD of swirl marks. The service writer had the audacity to throw me the keys and said "Hey we gave you a FREE wash wash!" WTFFFFF? CAN'T YOU READ THE FREAKING SIGN?

The second time after, I did the same exact thing but this time I stressed him to about 50 times to NOT WASH THE CAR. When I was picking the car up, the service writer said, "The car will be out in a second, we are about to wash it for FREE!". I SCREAMED and said "I WANT MY CAR RIGHT NOW, DO NOT WASH IT." The guy jumped a bit and RAN to the back lot to tell the wash boy to not wash my car.

God....and people wonder why we HATE bringing our cars into the dealership. Bunch of freaking retards.

2012 recall

just got my notice in the mail so I though I'd pass it along. there's a recall for the 2012 camaro (not sure if its all of the trim levels) involving the airbag light. some kind of module or something needs reprogrammed. otherwise the airbag light could incorrectly come on. It did say the airbag system would continue to work. but for anybody who live in a state with safety inspections, an airbag light on is an automatic failure.

Well my dealers service department told me to not do the recall because it would effect my custom tune. Don't know why the hell they would need to friggin rewrite my engine tune to fix the damn SDM.

When I got my 2012, in end February, the airbag light was on, so they said they had to look into that before it can be delivered; they said it was a sensor that needed to be replaced; it hasn't come on since then. We'll see if I get the letter... :/

Contacted a second dealer who told the original dealers service department was wrong and won't affect the tune just the SDM as I suspected to begin with........ was about to flip out.

I just got my notice in the mail today, Monday. And I just got a JRE SCT X3 custom tune last Friday. JUST FIGURES. I am thinking that I would have to reprogram the car Back To Stock, then take the car in and have the SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module) reprogramed. Then put my custom tune back in the car. Does anybody know if this is correct? And does it hurt anything to be reprograming the car so many times in a short time period?
This really irritates me that I have only put 50 miles on my car since my tune, now I have to tune it back to stock so soon.

Yeah the dealership where I bought the vehicle the service manager had no idea and said he talked to a tech (but referred to the tech as kid) and had the answer in about 2 minutes. I called another local dealership I do business with and that service manager went and asked 3 different techs and all of them gave him the same answer.

Well I just got a massage from JRE. With the SCT X3 tuner, I will be returning the car back to stock before taking it to the dealer. Then when they are done reprogramming the (SDM), I will install my custom tune back into the car. No big deal.
