Freeway Chevrolet, in Tempe, AZ. was adding a $10,000 "Market adjustment" to the MSRP of all new Camaros for the entire first year they were available. I'm sure they haven't changed their practice for the ragtop either! They also refuse to sell option 1 GMS (out of stock, GM employee pricing, which does not take from their allocation), on almost anything. They even told me they wouldn't order me a vehicle at GMS, at that point I said "no problem, I can order GMS from any GM dealer" and walked out. Shady place!

Fayetteville Autopark in Fayetteville, AR marked all of their Camaros up $5k over MSRP when they came out, too. Ludicrous.

I hate Market Adjustment. If it truely was, they would subtract 5k because the market is that crappy.

I remember when I had worked at pontiac back when the GTO's first came out (2004 ls1's). They wanted 15k over sticker. I laughed and said, "I guess they would make great paper weights outside on the lawn."

They assured me they would sell. One year later, they were still on the lot.

Ask for Max. I buy all my cars from him, best salesman I've ever encountered. He'll give everything to you straight, no BS like how it should be. Thanks to him I'll be having my 2012 2SS/RS 45th coming from the factory by the end of the month, right on time just like he told me.

The average reginal mark up in Hawaii is 10K for these cars. I finally bought my Camaro yesterday and the dealer had a Shelby Mustang 350 Cobra on the show room floor with a 25K mark up. They told me that they have a;ready sold 2 of those cars for 101K a piece.

No matter what the mark up is, there is always someone that is going to buy it. For a person like me that wants the best deal possible, it makes it really difficult to find what you are looking for. The looking is over now, thank god.

Columbia Chevrolet in Cincinnati

Dealer Name: Columbia Chevrolet
Dealer location: 9750 Montgomery Rd Cincinnati, OH 45242
Dealer phone number: (877) 681-7885
Dealer website: http://www.columbiachev.com/

The initial prices aren't really jacked up too bad, but they will pull every single slimy sales trick in the book. To hear I won't pay more than invoice was the tipping point, as two salesmen basically became VERY angry.

Here's what I wrote on Edmunds.com about them:

Quote:
5 Reason to AVOID Columbia Chevrolet
1- A salesman will lie to you that he has the car you're looking for, just to get you to the dealership. When you realize this, he will pull a "ohh I thought you wanted the V8!"
2- Another salesman will push standard sales tactics down your throat and then the moment you tell him you won't buy that day, he will start cleaning his desk. If you had kind of spoken a price with him, and now ask him to give it to you in writing, he will start complaining about how you'll take his paper to the next dealership and they'll beat him by a $100.
3- A salesperson actually mocked me for filling out the online quote request found here at Edmunds.com that asks quotes from every dealer in X mile radius. You can also tell he will be VERY sour from the fact that you are capable of using the internet.
4- As soon as they realize you have half a brain and looked up invoice pricing, both of these employees will turn really really angry, unfriendly, and passive-aggressive. The fact that you want to make an informed decision will be faced with all of them literally walking away from you and you standing by yourself by their empty desks.
5- Even though I have spent 30+ minutes in that dealership on multiple occasions, the "boss" never once came over to speak to me. He was only contacted when the sales guys went to ask him about prices. The only time I spoke to him, which is when I decided to approach him, he kept sitting in his chair, did not shake my hand and had a very angry tone.

I hope after seeing this, they won't be able to act so rude anymore. Take your business elsewhere, these guys sure don't deserve it!

I purchased my SS in 2010 for less than MSRP, at a few bucks more than dealer cost. Basically, I did not run into the dealership like a 20yr. old that just saved up for 10yrs. to buy a dream car my daddy had when I was nothing more than a nut buster.

Took my time, gathered all the cost / price details and made my case for why they should just take a few bucks to do the paperwork.
Once I showed them the facts on paper I obtained from the APA, they sold me the car for what I wanted to pay, happily.

The problem is most people get all ZL1 hyped up excited, and get burnt because they're afraid of walking away from the deal because they want instant satisfaction and bragging rights.
Just walk away, and wait a few more weeks then go back and make a deal.

I waited until the dealer had an SS on the lot to test drive, then I took 2mos. to make a deal with them, after I did all my research and got the APA to provide all the cost / price facts.

The art of negotiation is being in a position of strength, as a consumer you have the upper hand right away, but without the facts in hand you don't know where to start negotiations. Get the facts, and you'll get what you want for what you want to pay.

Gilchrist Chevrolet!
Traded in my fully optioned 2010 2SS/RS. they made money. Bought a GMC Terrain..They made money. Ordered my ZL1 they made a lot of money!

When I ordered my ZL1 I asked if they had a mark-up on it and I was told NO. So I ordered the car, got the build sheet with the price on it with options....Now when I went to sign the papers for it they tacked on 5K to the price. they said it would have been 10K mark-up but I was a repeat customer. WOW, dont do me any favors. My beef is that I had an agreed price on the build sheet but they wont honor it. furthermore, the salesman that wrote up the build sheet no longer works there. I went above the new salesman and contacted the owner of the dealership and he stands behind the mark-up. they wont budge. Im sure it is because they have 5 people right behind me ready to pay the price for the ZL1. its sold no matter what.

I'd have to tell them to stick it. ZL1's will be plentiful soon.

MSRP means Manufacture Suggested Retail Price. So if a person pays less then MSRP, why should a dealer not charge over MSRP? It's the law of supply and demand. The price is what the market will bare.
Remember when the iPhone came out, everyone that purchased on paid MSRP, but a year later some of the cell company's are giving them away with a 2 year contract?

You guys need to get some facts before posting. From dictionary.com: means to extort from, swindle, or overcharge. Problem is, you are stopping at that definition. Yo also need to look up suggested (to mention or introduce (an idea, proposition, plan, etc.) for consideration or possible action). This is the second word in MSRP (manufacturers SUGGESTED retail price. Perhaps is we stopped using MSRP as a word and identified it as an abbreviation more people would understand.

You and I do not set the price of a vehicle. The manufacturer does NOT set the price of a vehicle. They do SUGGEST a fair price for the vehicle given the factors they are aware of. They charge the dealership some number below this price and the dealer buys it. The DEALER then sets the price; any price they want. How would you like it if someone told you how much you could sell something you owen for? How would you like it if you set a price you thought fair, given market condition, and you were called out for gouging. You do not have to purchase a car from anyone in particular and are free to shop any dealer of your liking just as they are allowed to charge whatever they want. That is the basic and inalienable right established by our founding fathers. Dont like paying more than the manufacturer thinks ther car is worth, DONT BUY IT or find it somewhere else. This is how a fair market works. Dont like that, move to Europe where the government sets the price for everything.

I was in N/W Atlanta a couple weeks ago at the F-body Gathering and we stopped by a local dealer that had 2 - 2012 ZL1's on the lot. 1 was black and 1 was Ashen Gray. Both were at MSRP PLUS a 20k market adjustment. 78k & 81k.
At that price they'll be sitting there for a while
