I found a leak on mine as well last week. I took it to the dealer and had it back in two days. Today I looked again and noticed it leaking. I will have to take it back. Is there a way I can get someone from Chevrolet Customer Service involved to make sure it is done correctly? Thanks for any help.

I had this too. The first time it went in for service, they insisted on only doing the gasket kit. Two weeks later it was leaking again. The second time in they replaced the entire cooler and I've been good ever since.
There is no way that GM is going to assure you that it's done right. They're not even owning up to this being an issue. Every dealer I called pretended that they've never heard of an oil leak issue with these cars. I can't see that being possible given the number of oil leak threads on this site alone. |

The service dealer dropped the transmission on mine to get to the gasket between the motor and the transmission (Manual). I hope they don't have to do that again. I'm taking it in tomorrow and will keep everyone posted.

that would probably be the rear main seal, not the oil cooler gasket. good luck, hopefully it fixes the problem.

1) Oil Cooler 2) Pan 3) Rear Main Seal Some people in this thread had all three going at one time. Where is Jeff Morris? Jeff, is GM still saying that they have not heard of anyone having oil leak issues with these cars? |

I just came home from the dealer. They will have the car until at least Monday because they can't start work until Friday. I said I wanted a rental in the meantime. Anyway, I went under the car and a GM rep from Indiana was there. He was not saying much but he could tell I was concerned when I asked why a $40K has an oil leak. It looks like one of the hoses to the cooler was leaking oil and the oil pan looked like it was leaking as well. They will run another dye test as well. The rear main seal was replaced last week but I guess it will have to be replaced when they have to drop the transmission again. They are going to have to take apart the entire front end, as people here at CAMARO5 have said. I said I would like to have it done by one of their best mechanics, but I received the usual placations "All our techs are ASE certified...blah blah. I said if that's the case why is it still leaking after the first repair? I got the quizzical look at that point and the GM rep was not saying much either. I said I want to recheck it for leaks myself on the rack before I take it home. I'm bringing a black light with me to check for dye.
I pray it will come together well. I'll keep everyone posted. Regards. George Last edited by george; 05-09-2012 at 01:20 PM. |

Put me on the list too.... had oil on both sides, not enough to drop on my garage floor yet, but oil change place let me go in their work area to see. I'm not sure I want a Dealership to tear my vehicle apart, may wait until I have Livernois put a Cam in it in the next year or two and have them do it.
I haven't dug into the posts here to find this answer, will my warranty cover this since I have Headers and a tune?

DRIVETRAIN warranty void. still should cover gaskets as part of your original bumper to bumper warranty, although if headers = more labor to fix, they may bitch about them.

I wanted to see if you might be able to answer this question. If we have headers and a tune, do you think that the oil cooler issue would be denied coverage at the dealership (whether it's the gaskets or the actual oil cooler)?

Any reasonable person would say that there is plenty of information on the issue right here in this thread. If we can read it and experience it and see that the issue is happening to so many others, why is it that GM cannot? |

Did you have to leave your car with the dealer or were you able to wait on it? I really fear having to leave mine.

Oil pan was warped and the oil cooler line was bad. Oil cooler was fine. Service advisor said the line had a crimp that was not tight. Have to get a replacement for pan and line. Will not have the car back until next week. Disappointing.

The dealer put a new oil cooler on my car in under 1.5 hours. I waited on it to be done.

I am afraid I might have this as well. My wife texted me a picture of oil drops on our garage floor today. Unfortunately I had to go out of town so wont be able to see exactly where it's coming from until wed. I can only assume this is it with so many others. Sucks!

Mine was finally finished last week. The oil pan was not sealed all the way and you could actually see corrosion where there was no seal. By replacing the oil pan, I was told the gaskets on the oil cooler were also changed. The rear main seal is new, the oil pan is new and all gaskets on the oil cooler replaced. So far, no leak. They did not have to take down the front fascia. The suspension was involved to get to the oil pan. The car is driving and handling as new at this time. I hope this is the last problem I have. It's somewhat disappointing on a car with only 1700 miles to have this happen. I think this should be a recall.
