You don't have the parts numbers for these do you? I just tried to look them up but got lost in their parts catalog, couldn't find fluids listed anywhere.

My dealership sells ACDelco 75 90 synthetic gear oil. Is that the GM stuff?
I checked out my rear diff today anticipating doing this job. I found that my exhaust pipe is too close to the drain plug to get a regular 3/8" socket on there. I have a Solo catback and even after removing the hangers I couldn't move it enough to get my tool on there. I am going to need to get a low profile breaker or something. I never checked this out with the stock exhaust so I'm not sure how much room there was before. It seems like every little job requires me to buy some tool I don't have. sheesh |

Oh yeah. Noticed that when I got my exhaust on.... No room. It was ok with stock exhaust.
Sent from my payphone using carrier pigeons.

Today I picked-up the AC Delco Synthetic Axle Lube #88900401 from the dealer. On the receipt it says that it replaces #89021677. I also picked-up the Limited Slip Axle Lube Additive # 88900330, but it says nothing about being a replacement. I would think that the additive should be fine.

I just changed the rear end fluid for the first time today on my SS after 2 1/2 years and 17,000 miles. Per the manual I used Mobil 1 75W-90 fluid with 2.6 Oz of additive. I sure wish I had done it sooner.
Both the magnatic fill plug and drain plug were covered with fine metal shavings.

Im hoping to change mine this weekend. 21,1xx miles on mine right now. I was going to change it a while ago, but found that my exhaust is really close to the drain plug blocking access to it. I have 1 qt of Mobil 1 75W90 and a bottle of GM additive.

I used NO jack or ramps, just backed up to the edge of the garage and used the slope of the driveway for a couple more inches of room. My drain plug literally had a ball of metal sludge stuck to it. I also wish I had done this sooner. BTW: I added 2.5 oz of the GM friction modifier directly to the 1 qt. bottle of GM (AC DELCO) fluid and shook it up before I poured it in the diff. I was able to add 30 oz. before it started leaking out the fill plug. nice easy DIY job. |

Question for the RP fans. Is anyone suffering from the dreaded one wheel peel? What about our Amsoil users, same question.

Hello guys, do you confirm that: the factory rear diff. fluid part number 89021677 has been replaced by part number 88900401 and that the friction modifier part number 1052358 has been replaced by part number 88900330? Thank you

That's what the service dept at the dealership told me when I got my fluids.

Is that the right stuff for an Auto V6? On a side note, how hard is it to change out the transmission fluid and filter?
