Battery Disconnect

I haven't done any engine/electrical work yet as I've only had my car for two weeks, but I just received my skip shift eliminator harness which I'm going to install soon.

My question is two-fold:

1. In working on cars, anytime I would disconnect any harnesses or sensors, I always disconnect the battery first. Is this a necessary practice or do I not even need to do this?

2. Is the only way to disconnect the battery on the Camaro to get at it in the trunk or is there a simpler way under the hood?

Thanks to all.

I have never installed the skip shift eliminator, but I have installed a CAI, ported throttle body and Hurst Billet shifter on my M6. I have never thrown a CEL probably because I disconnect the battery. It doesn't hurt and may save you a CEL.

you don't need to unhook the battery. It's safe practice, but not necessary.

The only times I disconnect the battery is when I am working around an open positive circuit (ie starter) airbag system, or welding on a car that has a computer controlled system, other than that it's not necessary
