Please provide facts here people. It is NOT simply a coat of wax. Wax doesn't come with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. It does provide better protection against environmental damage and fading than even the best wax, but will not protect against swirls or scratches.

The misinformation around here from people is staggering. I would be more than happy to share via PM with any one here verified costs and documentation on this type of product vs WAX.
I would love to know what this super secret product is, I don't care what the cost is, but if not a wax, I would presume some kind of sealant.

My dealer threw that in free when I bought the car. It was called first place finish or something like that. You go in twice a year for a re-application for 5 years.

Assuming you have all day to leave the car, and in my dealer's case, no ride in, or home, or loaner. They bank on you not being willing to do that and get fed up. Then they can have the drop-out spend his time putting the wax job on the cars just off the truck.

The dealership worked in something similar when I bought my LS. Its a Teflon coat, like a clear thin coat of plastic. They did the interior with some kind of spill protection. Ford has something similar, my dad bought the service for his f450. `

Why do you need a paint warranty? That's why you have comprehensive/collision coverage to cover damage to paint.

A 5 year warranty, but has to be re-applied every 6 months. In reality, it is a 6 month product, then. Been using regular wax, (Gold Class or ICE)applied each month because I like to, and after 5 years, no fading on my wife's red Solstice. Costs a lot less, and doesn't require that I leave my car for a full day. Simple decision.

In reality it's a 2 year warranty.
Factory 3/36 covers paint defects for the first 3 years.

defects are not the same as wear and tear, a scratch wouldn't be covered under the warranty

Cristoff is correct... the value is in the warranty, not the actual product. By most accounts, including some from contacts I have within various dealers the cost of most of these products is around $20-$40 per 36oz. and it takes only a fraction of that (and a $7 an hour lot porter) to apply it.

Where these programs get you into trouble is the way their often sold. Most salesmen will use the "you'll never have to wash or wax your car again!" sales technique which isn't true. If you pay for one of these things you need to read the fine print to make sure you understand it.

Find out what it covers and what it doesn't. Most sales people are going to over state what it can do... they're not miracle products.

Find out how often you need to return for a refresh coat b/c many of them void the warranty if you fail to return within the time frame (and they're mostly banking on you forgetting to come back so they can). Most times you get the sales pitch they never bother to tell you about the coming back in for a new coat part.

Per my contacts thats part of the appeal - its a way to get customers back to the dealer every 6 months to sell them an oil change, tire rotation, or other service AND get their refresh coat. You don't make it back in 6 months then they got $250 of your money and can void the warranty. Either way they get the money or an opportunity to make more money... its what makes the world go round!

In the end its nothing more than a basic wax or sealant, something you could purchase for $20+/- and apply yourself to get equivalent protection... its the warranty and how thats backed up thats what gives it any kind of value. Most people get their fur up over it due to the way its sold and the lack of explanation of the fine print involved.

Well said.

My concern would be the potential damage done each time it's in for the ' refresh".
