It would take a little fab work and require you to start the car jump out unhook then drive away but It could be done easily. Steel 55 gallon drum, double hose on one end to place over the exhaust, 10 inch hole on the other. Inside the drum you line the sides with fiberglass to absorb the sound. Use heavy "chicken wire" screen to hold the fiberglass in. It will work much the same as an enlarged "silencer" for a gun. No, I have never made one, but the concepts are solid.

^^This is the route I use for a cammed and LT'ed daily driver. Get universal MagnaFlow muffs that are cheap and quiet (from a local exhaust shop)... and install the cutouts behind the rear axle, just before the muffs.

Mine is still a little loud in the mornings, but the demon isn't unleashed until I am out of the neighborhood.

Can you move to Gilbert and be my neighbor please? haha.

Well, mine isn't my DD, so I only take it out on Fridays and the weekends. I think my neighbor is more pissed because my garage is perpendicular to the house and faces his master bedroom where there is two giant windows (that I can awkardly see into, by the way...put some freaking blinds up ). But he seems like a cool guy...hasn't said anything to me. And I doubt he would... He has a different girl for everyday of the week.

The Cobalt is pretty loud too, with a fart can on it (although the Turbo keeps it relatively quiet), but I usually pop that into nuetral and coast it out of the driveway and then start it in the street so its not bouncing off my neighbors houses.

Im not sure about the V8 tune, but for us V6 guys the cold start high idle can be disabled.
I had to disable my high idle because my parking spot is about 5 feet away from a neighbors bedroom window.
Its still loud, but thats the best i could do.

oh, I know PLENTY of old people that are still young at heart... one of my favorite car guys in the town is an old guy i've been racing against since I was about 17... he's got to be in his 80s...

but my old neighbors that just moved back to Florida, 2 words describe them: old prudes

on the 4th of July, they called the police on us for "being too loud"... people, those things are called fireworks, lol

the police came out, laughed at the whole situation(but had to because they were called) and pretty much told me if they called back they were just going to ignore them

LOL sound like man much like myself, I had a Pro-charged Silverado, and a still have my Nightrod with the 2-1 Rinehart , now I have my 12 SS with a SLP LTHs, HFC, X-pipe, and loudmouth one. If my neighbors don't like it they can suck it plain and simple. They can start mowing thier yard and quit parking right at the edge of my driveway before I actually start considering how they feel.

I love the startup. If they don't like it... @#$# them.

I have to hear their stereo's as they come down the street late at night, the loud music from the parties 'till all hours, the slamming of car doors in the middle of the night, their dogs barking, their v8 trucks' cold starts that are just as loud as my Camaro... and I have to hear the one neighbor's wife shrilling and screeching at her husband and kids. They can hear my Camaro... by the way, how can I make it louder?

There is a huge difference...

I agree with 99% of the posters that state they should get over it, WITH the condition that they aren't blasting it between midnight and 5 am. I never start or take mine out if I know I will be driving through the neighborhood (in or out) during that time. I can give you 12-1am if you are coming in at low rpms as even a cam isn't that bad once on a warm run...but cold starts? come on.

Maybe you have to have kids to respect that other parents are dealing with young ones? I dont know...but if your job requires you to wake up at 4 am you should have kept it audible performance mods stock or you cannot at least give the cold start in a closed garage..that is a little bit douchey to me. (even coming from a guy with a cammed camaro who also had to work night shift and hear other people's daily routine for 5 years)

It is not other citizen's jobs to "get used to it" at those hours. I had one gentleman in a previous apartment complex tell me he could play his music as loud as he wanted at night (and it was loud as F) because he felt he shouldn't have to hear construction or lawn equipment during the day when he was sleeping. That is the logic we use sometimes with our cars... while some people are unreasonably ridiculous about complaining on us, to others it just isn't fair to treat that way.

This is why I live in the country, I can rev my exhaust and get my truck stuck in the backyard, shoot my guns, and have enormous bonfires without any complaints. In fact usually when I do any of the things I just listed, the one semi-close neighbor I do have comes over, offers me a beer, and gets in on the fun. Gotta love us country boys.

My neighbors on one side are always out playing with quads and motorcycles...and seem to have no issue with my Camaro...my neighbors on the other side are college professors who are just really friendly and never say anything to me about the car...so when I leave for work at 6:45 in the morning, I just try to get away from the house as quickly as possible without letting the car idle much, and without hitting the throttle much...it helps that I live on a hill, and the main road is down hill...I can really just release the parking brake and roll quite a ways on my way out of the neighborhood before I make noise.

If everyone was this considerate there might be a lot less complaining. Some neighbors are just jerks and will complain about anything. That's hard to understand. But it's also hard to understand the folks that get some kind of enjoyment out of intentionally making a lot of noise in their own neighborhood, especially at night. The idiot two houses down from me has left at 5:30 AM on the dot the last 2 days. A Japanese 4 cylinder bike with no mufflers. Immediately after starting he runs it at 3,000 or 4,000 RPM for a minute or so then blasts away as fast as he can, keeping it in 1st or 2nd gear for the 5 or 6 blocks you can hear it. That's the other extreme.

What I dont understand is he said the car was STOCK. My neighbor made fun of the way my car sounded stock and accused me of having a V6 and only saying I had a V8. I put the JEGS 4 resonator exhaust on it and it rumbles like hell now, but still pretty reasonable at idle. I personally think these cars are REALLY quiet stock. Maybe you did something else to piss him off and this is just what he is focusing on. IDK.

My neighbors never give me hell about leaving at 3:15AM as i START work at 4am on weekends, it sux but thats the world we live in, i guess if they didnt like it they would move to the "country" where they had few neighbors, we pretty much all get along, we have a pretty good mix of ages in the neighborhood the young guys coming from school when im washing my car always give me the thumbs up and tell me "great car" and if i can influence any young person to buy american im going to do it anyway i can! i dont rev my car in the morning and im not going to push my car down the street, it has an electric starter that i use to start it with. its only for maybe 2 minutes and if my neighbors have an issue with it they never say anything, and yes i do have kids my 4 year old loves my car and is learning how to wash and detail it she has told me many times that its HER car lol and my garage is right under her bedroom if she wakes up she goes right back to sleep as im thinking that the rumble rocks her back to sleep.

3 SS Camaros on my side of the street, right next door and right across the street. Now the other side of the street doesn't understand and probably hates us. My recent acquisition of a 4 banger daily definitely helps keep the noise pollution down though. For the most part our neighborhood is mostly young families 30 and under so they're all pretty cool.

i live in an apt complex, my garage is right below someone elses apartment, i leave for work at 6:30 most days...oh BTW i have HF cats, resonator delete and muffler delete...its as close to straight pipes as u can get as far as loud goes....i start it up as i am rolling out of the garage, then i just release the clutch to idle away and this brings the idle speed down. i KNOW i wake everyone up and i do feel bad, BUT i cant help where my garage is, and i am not changing my car for anyone. it sounds boss and i love it.

idk how so many of you guys do not respect your neighbors. something i would hear from a teenager trying to be "cool". with the whole carefree attitude. anyways ya i run a loud exhaust with a cam. but i respect them enough not to take my camaro out early or late. at least not start it up.

well its the only car i have and i need to get to work...oh i also have a gsxr1000 with a full exhaust too, i could take that but the situation is the same. its not disrespecting, its just that if i need to go somewhere early or i get home late, i do...simple as that. i think if i was sitting there with it running thats disrespectful, or if i was revving it up.

No it is not disrespectful if that is your only means of transportation... but it also comes with the territory, don't be pissed at them or the cops when they show up issue fines or citations for it. I think the muffler delete with HF or LTs is absolutely ridiculous, and personally don't care for the tone but if it makes you happy that is all that matters.

I run a cam, very similar to Mike's... there are days where I come home late, but I try to coast in and out like you. However, if I have the ability to drive my wife's cars at 4 am, I do. Again, doesn't make you disrespectful if you are just trying to leave and it is your only means but there are consequences. What bothers me and I am sure mike agrees, is when some members here "whine" about those consequences or complaints. You have been open about it, so no biggie
