driving in reverse ls3
I was wondering if someone can help me out and give me the secret to drive in reverse lol. I feel alittle embarrassed. I have been driving manuals for awhile but I just can't get this car to back up smooth. I either burn the shit out of the clutch or not give it enough gas and shakes like crazy. I also get that nasty clunk sound when in reverse. what's the secret?

Sounds, like you might need to get that checked out by the dealer. I can usually just back up at an idle in mine, I just let out on the clutch like I was taking off forward, some times I have to give it a little throttle, but not any different than taking off slowly in first.

My cammed beast now idles at 925 rpm and slow speed creeping in and out of the garage is actually a little easier than stock. I just ease the clutch out against that constant higher idle and then clutch back in before it fully engages. That way I get some smooth rolling going (but must avoid letting the clutch out all the way without adding some extra gas or its a wild bucking ride then). So, maybe try bringing your idle up a little and slip against it a tad to get rolling.

The clutches in rear diff create friction and will make a clunking sound when driven slowly and turning(especially in reverse).....I know it sounds like something is broken, but it will do that until its "broken in". Hard driving will break it in faster. |

the car only has 300 miles... the reason why I am having trouble is because I am trying not to cause the infamous clutch clanking noise. it is just a horrible noise I can't bare to hear.

Backing up just takes a little getting used to with the TR6060. The reverse gear engages king of roughly, and you need to ease out the clutch smoothly to back up without revving the engine above 1k. Else you'll get that jerky bounce or the almost stalling feeling.
Practice makes perfect for this.

The clutch will smell the first few hundred miles as it breaks in. Mine stopped after 350ish miles. The clunk is drivetrain slack and you get used to hearing it although it still annoys the crap out of me. The shaking is from the driver.

I don't think I've hardly ever used the accelerator when backing up. I just put it in reverse and ease off the clutch pedal.
