Oil change after storage

Was just checking to see what the consensus is on this one. I did an oil change at my dealer the day before putting the Camaro to sleep. Is another oil change needed since I just brought it out of storage ?.

I did not do one before putting the car away, but will have an oil change when I take the car out

I always put my boat away for the winter with an oil change (455 Olds). Don't want old oil with all the sludge and acids in there all winter.

No, oil does not deteriorate during one storage season.

Right. I think the key is to change it out before the car is stored. You should be good to go as long as you stored the car less than a year. Any more than that and I'd change the oil out just for kicks.

I don't think this is the concern as much as water vapor forming inside the engine and mixing with the oil.

You should be good as long as you did not start it and let it run during storage.

Thanks guys. Was only started once to get the fuel stabilizer pushed through, ( A week after storing it ) and was only stored for 6 months. Based on that I should be OK .

Great question as I changed the oil and filter beforre storage but there seems to be a lot of diverse opinions on whether to change it when bringing it out of storage. Dealership says that Mobil one leaves a film and no problem after 6 months but others ( mechanics ) say to change it out when I bring her out in May. Don't know which way to go????

Mechanics probably saying this because its an easy job to replace oil for easy money.

I have an 87 pickup I have been storing since 87 and always change the oil before storing never when I get it out. Never a problem, GM used to send out a brochure upon request and thats what it said to do.

I know when I store my harley, always change the fluids before storage, don't want
old oil sitting there all winter. add a good fuel additive and let her be.
pull it out in spring and your ready to go.
I will be doing this procedure when I store my SS this winter.
Good clean oil for the winter storage.

I had a 35th Ann. GT that was a garage king its entire life. Back then I was running Castrol full synthetic. I emailed the Castrol techs and asked what they recommended. They suggested dropping the oil after winter storage.
