ZL1 Differential & axles

Just wondering if the ZL1 differential and axles will bolt up to an SS camaro, found a GM website that finally carries the parts. I am going to head to my local GM dealer and ask someone there this weekend...excellent pricing on GM parts and so far they have been taking the abuse, just wondering if anyone have info

So you would save a grand over the aftermarket built ones? also i believe gforce has a warranty on their's.

Actually if you buy the differential and both axles (manual trans) it came out to roughly $2757 before shipping, not bad for a 9.9 inch rear in my opinion, pretty good bang for the buck in my opinion

The subframe it bolts into is different. I dont think the ZL1 diff will bolt into the SS subframe since its larger.

Yea you're right and the built ones are like $4500. I guess I just don't want to buy factory to do things they weren't designed for again. I bought an ls9r clutch and I don't make the 900 tq claim that it can handle and i feel if i bought aftermarket I could say "hey you said it's designed for this. what gives?" So I guess in short I feel like if I'm going to shell out that much money I might as well get the best I can.

I hear you with that, after hearing about the pontential cradle difference that kinda burst my bubble...also looking on that website you can buy the ZL1 clutch and pressure plate for $332 and ZL1 flywheel for $558 which is good pricing also, just more options to look at pending peoples needs

The zl1 pressure plate wont work on your stock crank. it has 8 bolts vs your ls3's 6. The actual clutch and pressure plate might though.

Why not just bolt a whole ZL1 cradle and rear end in?

number #1 reason is cost. If theres no need why spend it.

You will need new hubs too, for the axles to fit in them, and last i think the only difference in the subframe is the cooler lines and pump mounting on the subframe.

I agree even with that added cost it still alot cheaper than a 9" upgrade.

I would bet if you added up everything it takes to make it work you will be at more money than other options.Im testing the new 12 bolt now and its amazing,lightest weight and cheapest solution.The zl1 parts havnt been made to handle near the hp we can with our stuff and there not proving,it will be tuffer than the stock ss diff but not near as strong as our aftermarket stuff,not to mention drivetrain loss with that big unit.

If the ZL1 rear bolts up in an SS cradle without major modifications the aftermarket rears will have to be discounted by 50% to compete.
For the ZL1 rear, ZL1 left/right axles, and ZL1 hubs with shipping to my door is below $3400.
Show me even one aftermarket supplier who is going to sell me a new complete rear and axles for that price that is stronger than my current SS unit.

Your leaving out the drive shaft and craddle,and more important all the labor to make the switch,no doubt in my mind the new HammerHead complete drivetrain solution will be cheaper and alot stronger,have tons of gear chioces(the zl1 diff will eventually but i bet the gears will be 3-4 times the price of the 12 bolt)The new zl1 diff is stronger no doubt,but how much stronger?,spend $4000 plus on the zl1 setup to find out it only holds 700rwhp,when you could have spent a lil more on something that holds over 1000hp.I can also say the axles will be beefer on the zl1 but the cvs will still be junk compared to ours .

You obviously have nothing constructive to add to this thread and are just trying to muck up the ongoing process some of us are interested in pursuing as well as sales-pitching an unproven design that is already being praised to the Camaro5 community as the next coming of rearend Christ in at least two threads.
If you had bothered to actually read and comprehend what has been said it has already been hypothesized that the ZL1 rear will bolt into an SS cradle (probably any 5th gen cradle for that matter) there just won't be any mounting points for the cooling line retaining tabs if they were to be used.
There are plenty of aftermarket options for rearends from mild to wild and from expensive to very expensive, we aren't discussing that here we are discussing a cost effective GM engineered solution.
I'm quite sure you wouldn't want me throwing crap around about Jannetty Racing, Lingenfelter, and Gforce having better ideas/parts in your Hammerhead threads so I for one would appreciate it if you took your sales pitch elsewhere.

Well im truly sad you feel that way,im exspressing my opinion ,and my years of knowledge on irs rears and conversions, i have an opion just like you, .You along with others are comparing it to the aftermarket offerings,seems i should be able to provide factual info about aftermarket products.Also i could make as much or more selling the zl1 stuff as i will make on the HammerHead sales,i just rather help my customers get the most for there money.I respect your opinion ,i hope you can respect mine,i know others do and theres no harm in making sure everyone has factual info right?

Has there ever been a confirmation if the ZL-1 axles will fit an SS? GM parts direct has both for $644. I dont need 1000hp axles, so if I can get something half the price of the next step up, it sounds like a deal to me.
