They made the deal with the factory for the car and if you are willing to give them 5K over the deal they made it can be yours....same same. It just seems odd to me that when the dealers do it they are scum, but if we do it then hey, its just good business and the other guy is foolish to pay it just my opinion
The difference is I'm not marking it up, the person wanting the vehicle is doing the markup. Why is this such a hard concept to understand?

If it was in the first couple hundred vins I would not do it, if it was vin 1500 or what ever they're are now I would've handed him the keys and wait for the navi on the 2013.

Thanks for the money...enjoy your ZL1. Then go put that money in Escrow to save up for the next one you order.

Well... if you WAIT and are still planning on a ZL1 in a year or so, you might not break even with $5K if the price goes up! Just for reference, the new GT500 is $55k BASE and by the time you get the track pack and cooling goodies and a good radio & seats you are at $66-67K. Not including ADM. So, I could potentially see GM raising the price of the ZL1........ along with a few more horses of course, but it could go up $5K pretty easy.

Tough call, if you had already ordered it they way you wanted it, I would have to say no to the money. If it was dealer ordered then I would have taken the cash. I think you did the right thing!

I agree, A lot of people here complain when dealers are asking over MSRP for a car that is not readily available, and has more buyers than that factory can produce. Eventually, there will be a time when the market saturates and even ZL1's will be discounted. But, if you want to be the first on the block with the newest toy, you are going to pay more. It is the same with any high demand new products. There is no difference with a dealer selling a hard to find vehicle over MSRP than a customer that has purchased the same car. If someone does not want to pay what the market price currently is, they can always wait for the demand to slow, and prices to come down. Currently you can buy a ZR1 Corvette heavily discounted. That was not the case when they first came out.

Why is ok that same buyer that whined about having to pay MSRP, to get over MSRP when he turns around and sells the same vehicle himself? That is perfectly fine, but the mean old dealer is "gouging". Try operating a dealership and paying all the operating expenses, floor plan expenses, advertising expenses, employee expenses, plus everything else, and stay in business without making a profit. Those of you that own you own business are not going to sell your products without making a profit. If you do you won't be in business for long.

People pay a much larger percentage of markup on food, pharmacy items, furniture, jewlery, clothing, homes, and appliances, and don't complain. However, they cry the blues when they that have to pay a dealership a profit on a car. As many of you know, the current Camaro's do not have near the markup they used to back in previous generations. A new 2SS/RS automatic has $964.10 of markup from factory invoice to MSRP. Not a lot of profit on a car that MSRP's for $38,965.

A sales person that "full pops" this car will make $241.02 before taxes on that sale at a 25% commission. How often does that happen? They do all the necessary paperwork, assist the customer with finance applications, have to go thru a complete delivery process, that includes setting up On Star, pairing customer cell phones, setting up remote apps for the car on that same smart phone, introducing the customer to the service department, and making sure the car is clean, and hopefully with out any kind of cosmetic damage at time of delivery. After doing all that then they have to wait for a customer satisfaction survey from the buyer. Even if they did a perfect job, and everything was fine, they could have their CSI rating drop because the customer did not get the interest rate they felt they should have, or be upset about some other item the sales person has no control over.

Actually new car sales are the least profitable part of a new car dealership. The real profit centers are used vehicle sales, and service. Now that new vehicles are more reliable, and require less maintenance than in the past, even service department are not making the money they used to.

Basically all I am saying is it fair to make a profit when you operate any retail business, or your sell your own items. If it is something every wants, and no one has, then the market price will reflect that.

I would have done it for 5k. Would have bought another ZL1 or wait for the 2013 model and use the $5k for mods.

GM won't raise it by $5k. The ones on the dealer lot that have $5-10k mark up aren't selling.
