Yep, here's my rub marks at 5K miles

So today taking some photos of the rub marks on my roof, i noticed what looks to be the start of fraying. Does this look familiar to anyone?

I am curious as to what is causing these and wonder how bad they're going to get. Oh and these pics were taken the day after I washed my top with soap and a sponge... so this is how my top looks at it's best. Only 5K miles on it... so frustrating!

Well, GM will tell you they are normal. People who own coupes will say if you fold a pair of pants, do you expect them not to get wrinkled or rubbed? As a vert owner, they will eventually wear through so you can take a shower while driving in a rain storm. Welcome to the club!

This is their first line of defense. They will tell you that these are normal. get the TSB done, get a case number and don't accept that as an answer. It is a way for them to weed people out. Tell the people that it is normal and some will go away.

It will be a bit of a battle, but you are fortunate that you have support of the people on here and our FB page here; http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/226942550693692/

Honestly, we (unlike the baloney, sales crap you get from GM customer service) are here to support you.

Close the Handel

The rub mark you have is from not closing the pull_down/release handle.
Make sure you always close it after you open it. I raise mine 6" then stop and close it and the open the vert top the rest of the way. When closing I stop at about 6" as well. Once you get the timing down, you won't have to stop at all.

What about these rub marks leads you to believe it has anything to do with the handle? I think they are coming from the wind blowing the top and it's rubbing against the back plastic part of the trunk lid. I could use the tonneau cover, but that leaves marks as well and is a pain in the butt to put on and take off. Besides, its an upgrade option by chevy, so it shouldn't be required.

Anyhow, please provide reasoning on how you think the handle caused these marks....

the third pic (the one on the top of the roof) is from your top flapping in the wind & rubbing the lip of the well. When you put the top down, look at what part of the top is touching the lip well - I guarantee you it's that spot where the top has the rub mark. I have the EXACT same one on mine & I've seen other pics with the same one. On my 1st roof, it was in another spot but it was where the retracted top was touching the lip well.

To me, this is a design flaw and each car may have a mark in a different area.

Did you have your roof replaced because of these marks? Did they eventually fray the fabric?

After about 3 months, the fabric hasn't frayed yet but it's getting real shiny where the rub mark is. I'm having the top replaced next week due to this & the "V" marks coming back again.

I agree that the top rubbing against the back deck in the wind is definitely causing these marks. I'll be watching these very closely.

Your rub marks are not the usual, typical rub marks that most peole incur. The more common rub marks are found just above the drivers door and the passenger door on either side of the car.

I would still take the car to the dealer and have your rub marks checked out, and at the very least get them put on the record.

He has the usual ones also. I have the same ones and I close my handle and use the cover for the top.

Please let us know how your service appointment goes with the dealership. Also, please let us all know if this was the fix. We hope everything is now addressed by your dealership.
