Poll who has had top issues other than wrinkles or rub marks?
Just wondering how many have really had serious issues with the tops, tears holes leaks ect. And who has had nothing worse than rub marks or wrinkles or no problems at all.
Please use the posting area to show the age of your car. Approximate build date if known and how many time do you think you have cycled the top up and down. I do not need horror stories or complaints about how GM Is handling them I just need statistics.

It was built 1/22/11. The top was Black. The Total top replacement was done a little over 4 months ago. Rub marks on the original started happening within a few months on the original top.

I also had all the issue with my first car built 7/26/11. My second one built 4/4/12 has all the fixes in it. At about 1500 miles I had a pronounced rub mark from the drivers side cable. After going to the dealership they cleaned and brushed it along with a little tension fixing. I washed the hell out of the area and now it is gone. I will be watching it close though moving forward. Ask. In August how the top has held up with being down For 4 months.

I went the BBB route and my resolution was a new car. It didn't perform like it should. GM tried everything to get me to keep it. Finally after about day 90 in the shop and waiting on parts I said NEW CAR or I AM GOING TO LEMON IT. Ordered my car the next day.

Every payment etc. that was on the old car applied to the new. All I had to pay was upgraded options, title, and license. GM stepped up and made it right.

Good! I only wish GM stepped up and did it on their own. Maybe if enough go your route GM will either offer a buy back or a replacement of the entire top to owners that have a 2011 or early 2012.

Yep, get involved with the repair or BBB's it. If you really want to keep it due to mods or other keep involved and they will get it done.

nutbutt,
there is no BBB route for me here in canada, only arbitration route and that is only after the manufacturer or their representative(the dealer) has had several attempts at repair of the same problem.so 5th bow is not the same as a water bag system failure , although they are top related but different problems. So I must try the warranty work route 1st. |

I checked "bows leaks etc" as the water leak is my main concern right now... on top of the rub marks... but there should be a 4th option= all the above... cuz... I got all the above!

We will be taking delivery of our new 2012 vert on Monday from Becky at Rogers Chevrolet. She is bending over backwards to make sure our car is as close to perfect as a dealer can. I will be checking back with this thread and hopefully by the end of summer I can click the no problems. Thanks for voting and I am looking forward to the comments from owners. Please no rants about getting it fixed. Just want to know what if any problems others have.
Thank you Tim

Very minor rubbing, usually if I leave the top down for a couple or few days. Then looks good as new the next time it gets wet and dries.
Btw, bought my car from Becky and had it shipped to NH - best experience ever. Becky rocks!! ![]() ![]()

Just the rub marks, seem to be a little better since the TSB, still monitoring them closely. I'm in no hurry for anything else to be done, because if it does get worse I will demand the total mechanism and canvas to be replaced.

This is no consolation for those of us with Camaro's Cornucopia of Problems, but I looked at two used 2010 Ferrari soft convertibles today. Both tops had been down 90% of their life. They looked like the shirts on a homeless guy sleeping on a Philly street vent. For $179,000 used...that's total BS.
I went home and hugged my slightly wrinkled, never down, original top. Granted, when I turn 200 miles (and some top-down driving), I may be kicking its butt.

I have been looking at other convertibles I pass lately and have noticed that just about ALL convertibles with this type material for a top have wrinkles from being down and rubmarks. Some I have even noticed with holes in a couple year old car. So I think Rubmarks and wrinkles may be a normal thing with this type material. Holes not so much along with broken bows. I think many owners because of the top threads on here are panicing the first time they see rub marks and start complaining to the dealer. in my experience it is like the little boy that cried wolf, after a while they will stop listening.

Had some minor rub marks and wrinkles and the latest TSB has worked for me. I have one of the very early builds late Jan 2011 and I have 14,000 miles now and the top has cycled hundreds of times.

There is hope...
To satisfy my curiosity, I spent yesterday afternoon at a VW dealership discussing and driving the EOS with its folding hardtop. I wanted to see, if cloth was the problem in a convertible, would a hardtop convertible be a better choice?
1. At expressway speeds, the wind noise was noticeable with the top up. Compared with the Camaro, the sound seemed to resonate inside the car, whereas the Camaro's cloth layers dampen the noise inside the cabin. 2. Yes, the EOS top disappears under the trunk lid. There's no soft tonneau to blow away. Yes, there are no wrinkles or rub marks on a hardtop or on the top's sunroof. At least, not yet on the demo. 3. To solve the problem of leaks, VW applies a sealant to all the rubber gaskets...which has to be periodically renewed. When detailing an EOS, you must be careful not to remove the sealant with aggressive cleaning. 4. The complicated Rube Goldberg system to lower and stow the hardtop is a fertile field of failure with sensors, cables and covers. It's like watching the robot docking arm of the Space Shuttle. 5. VW Forums are rife with top complaints, just like the Camaro's. "VW doesn't care about my problem..." and "I saw an EOS on the road today going by with the top stuck halfway down..." ![]() Talk of "Lemon Law" and "sixteen (for real) repeat trips to the Service Department" are there too. I concluded that (misery loves company) we need to either be patiently persistent with GM on Camaro problems or simply get out of the brand altogether. In the end, when a Camaro's problems are solved, we have one damn sweet car for the money. IMHO, that's something no other top-down driver of another brand can match.
