Toyo Proxes 4?

ok I need your guys experience/opinion on these tires. I am preparing to pull the trigger and get a new set of Ruff's 953's and need to get tires to go with them and the complication comes in because I am transferring to Michigan in Feb. I don't want to be doing the tire dance so I am hoping a good set of all season's will do the trick since I will only be driving to and from work in the snow. If these won't do it then recommend some please. I am looking to sell my stock SS rims with tires if this can be done, if not then sell the PZeros and keep the stock and put snow tires on them, (I need a money tree). Thanks

Ghostrider, I bought some Toyo Proxes 4 about 2 years ago. I live in TN, but was having to work in the mountains of AZ. Bearing in mind that they are not designed to be true "snow tires" (like I run on the truck), the Toyos work great! Best of all, no noticeable "flat spots" when working in temperatures down to about 10F.
With the Toyos, I get better traction on snow, and also, because of the tread design, I seem to get better traction and handling in heavy rain.
I haven't noticed any reduction in performance versus the P-Zeros.
I've got about 20,000 miles on them, and would guess they are about 1/2 tread. Not too bad, considering the way I drive sometimes.

Hope this helps.

you got any pics of them sitting on your ride? So you drive from TN all the way to Az for work, holy *%$@!
I asked because I have read poor reviews that they are don't handle the rain at all but I am getting some rims from a forum sponsor and he recommended them, so for a piece of mind I would like more input since I personally have no experience with them.

I'm on my 3rd set, although it's just front tires right now on my camaro. I had proxes 4s on my WRX all around twice and didn't regret it at all. Good tires. I drove in the rain, snow and everything in between in that car, and even in my camaro. I don't drive stupid when it's wet or icy/cold, so I usually don't notice any of the problems reported by other users and I'm of the mind that if you do drive normally/cautiously in those types of conditions, they are fine. They aren't a snow-tire (in reality), but then again no tire of that class really is. The whole "can't drive the pirellis below 40 degrees" and "you'll spin out of control when it's wet" stuff is way way overblown IMO. Those people losing traction all over the place are probably the same that can't figure out why they get 15mpg with the V6. Watch the rear tire load-rating on the proxies though, the last I checked it was below what the vehicle called for?

I have the Toyo Proxes 4's on my SS for the winter. Great all season tire IMO but I never drive this car in the snow.
Very quiet when on dry roads and good traction in the rain.

Ghostrider, sorry, I don't have a pix showing the tires. In the 22 months we've owned her, I've put about 40,000 miles on her,....and, loved every mile of it!
Don't necessarily believe the reviews; I'd heard "bad" things about the Toyos also. But, a local tire dealer told me to "trust him", and I did. I think it was one of the best decisions made.
I feel that I have much better traction on wet roads; noticeably less hydroplaning than the P-Zeros! Hardly any difference in road noise with them. Like I said before, they're not true "snow tires", but I haven't had any problems driving in snow anywhere.
I have decided to run them year-round after the P-Zeros wear out.
(BTW, I'm running 275 on all corners with the Toyos, and it handles great!)

I'm on my 2nd set of Toyo Proxes 4's. I haven't found a better tire for the price and handling and I've looked extensively online and the forums. I like the OEM tires but they just wear out to fast. I do think the PZeros seem to stick better when I take off from a start in the rain but I think I may have just been giving too much throttle. When I take off with less throttle they are fine. I recommend them. I researched before getting my 2nd set and couldn't locate anything I thought was better for price, handling, and wear.

The Proxes4 is an excellent tire, as you can see even by the people who have been using them.

However, the Proxes4 is in the middle of being phased out in favor of the new tire, the Proxes4 Plus.
Currently Toyo has the fronts you need in the new tire but not the rears.
Hopefully that will change soon.

Be sure to ask for the DOT date stamp on the sidewall. This will tell you when the tire was manufactured. I bought a set from Group-A Wheels that were over 6 years old! You do not want to install old tires on these cars.

Please PM me the name of the vendor as I am, unfortunately, in need of another set of tires. Thanks

Exactly where is that date located on the tires ? What does it look like ?
Thanks.
