The ZL1 will do 0-60 in 4 seconds (3.9 for the automatic) - it didn't do it in this video, but the 4.5 seconds you're quoting for the SS is what GM claim as the fastest time for the SS, so it's only fair to compare apples to apples, especially seeing as the SS wasn't tested under the same conditions as part of this video.

As for the video, it's what we've all known since Ford announced the '13 GT500 - Ford has the edge in a straight line, and GM has the edge in handling.

It's all about personal preference, and my choice is of course the ZL1.

Since the GT500 is now producing more HP than the Corvette, it should not be compared to the ZL1. Especially since the Blue Oval guys do not have or had any vehicles that competed directly with the Corvette since the late 50's. With the push by Ford to bump the HP to Corvette levels, it's only fair to compare the GT500 to it.

Of course there have been some Mustang guys here that probably have begun that comparison since it does exceed the ZL1 by a fair margin when it comes to the straight line contest. It seems that is the most prominent and dominant discussion between the two camps since a large majority view it as the least expensive option on the basis of entrance fee at a sanctioned track. But I believe either way, it's a proposition not for the faint of heart when it comes to doling out the wallet for each hobby.

There are those from the Chevy camp that want the ZL1 to compete with the GT500 but I think it is a better comparison to the Boss LS since it is their twisty track star and there already has been comparisons from the mags. Ford, in my opinion, has quietly begun it's progression to competing with Corvette. Maybe not the ZR1, yet, but definitely with the Z06.

It's my own opinion that I don't think that Chevy will come out with an HP increase for the ZL1 until the Corvette does also, but that is left to speculation, which both camps like to engage in. I think that if the Ford boys want to have there day in the sun, so be it, but it's just obvious that Ford's intention all along was not to compete with the ZL1. Yes, there will be those of you that will counter that Al O. stated that we would give the GT500 something to think about, but even he could not predict what kind of monster they would produce and what their true intentions were. The numbers don't lie.

I think that you are spot on! Camaros are limited by a Corvette ceiling! Mustangs have no such limitation.

ya just dont wanta be part of the losing side. there in the same price range and they both have v8 supercharged thats fair enough stop been babys. the gt500 is faster owell get over it im tired of seen zl1 goin against the boss302. it gt500 vs zl1 wich ever one is faster well the company just brot more to the table thats all i got to say now its up to us to make it faster than the competitor. last i remember the ford gt went against the corvettes

I don't know seems like the ZL1 is faster than a base Corvette by a fair margin. And the ZL1 already has more hp than everything in GMs line up except the ZR1.

I disagree. The GT500 is in the pony car category and the Corvette isn't.
Furthermore, If the Corvette is the ceiling for the Camaro (which I agree with you) that's GM's problem. That doesn't automatically leave it up to the Corvette to fight the Camaro's fight.

I believe the OP makes a few good points, but I'm not quite convinced ford isn't competing with the ZL1.

I still believe it's true that the new GT500 was benchmarked off the GT, becUse the Boss was on it's tail, but they also know full well that it's Camaro/Firebird vs Mustang (even when the GM entry was non existent).

I remember when Camaros were blowing 2v 4.6 cars out of the water in straight lines (sound familiar ?) but Ford guys didn't say well, GM isn't comparing the Mustang to us anymore because they're shooting higher.... It's just part of the progression.

I think it might sting for (key word here) SOME c5 members simply because they took the hype and the overwhelming performance promises for "over face value" and obviously can't cash them in.

All in all, you guys know you don't like your ZL1s any less because another car is faster. Same as I don't like my GT500 any leas because it'll get drilled by a zr-1, or a new viper, or a....

I agree that the GT500 is "competing" with the ZL1. In this case Ford just brought a bigger dog to the fight. I said it before, I think the HP wars are great for the customers of muscle cars. I also think its a little funny that while GM was hyping up the ZL1, Ford just kind of slammed the door on them before they even could get one Z to a customer.

I do hope Ford does bring out a competitor for the Corvette. A nice 2-seater, twin turboed, all wheel drive beast that will make Godzilla (GT-R) owners nervous.

2 seater, 5.0 ecoboost would be the competitor for the vette. I could skip the Awd part, if I want to hit the corners I'll take 2 wheels over 4 all day (sport bike, not rwd).

Corvette is a pure sports car. It is a different animal from the Camaro and Mustang. GM is going to really have to step it up with the C7 now that the ZL1 and GT500 are such powerhouses.
