Is this a good deal for new brakes?

Took my car in for service today from the dealer. Balaced my tires, & oil change. They did mention that I need new brakes bad, I have 3 millimeters left on the pads in the rear. I wasnt sure how bad the brakes were because recently bought this SS. He did mention that I change them ASAP or theyll start digging in my rotors. Anyways, the quote he gave me was $598 for all 4. Is that a pretty reasonable price? He did say the were GM high performance pads.

It does seem I can buy the pads cheaper online. I was thinking about going that route, & just having them installed. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

easy job on these cars, no bearings to repack, always will do it myself.

if you are mechanical at all, should be able to do it for the cost of pads.

unless the rotors need turning.

actually by dealer standards its a fair price. remember the price of pads from the dealer are near 100 per set.. 100+ per hour labor balance is 15 a tire avg and an oil change is like 30 bucks

How many miles should we expect from our brake pads? I know it depends on driving style, but on average, how long?

You can search for brake pads at Summit Racing.
They range from $68 to $350 for a pair.
Just depends on what you want and need.
This forum has a great amount of information but also a lot of BS
Just look at the responses that you got previous to mine.
Totally worthless

Factory pads im guessing are more like $120 to $150 a set. Check with your dealer. Anybody can slap pads on its not a big deal but its not the right way to do it. I see threads here all the time where guys slap on a set of hawk pads and complain of noise. Your brake pads will not seat properly unless your rotors are machined. Hard to do in your driveway. Although you can take them to your local auto posts store and pay them 10 to 20 bucks each to cut them for you. The price is reasonable but you can always save by doing it yourself. Just make shore you know what you are doing. I work at a dealership and we end up re doing allot of brakes done by other shops because the propper care was not taken or aftermarket parts were used that cause excessive noise.
