Thanks for the pic! so this set contains pretty much everything you'll need to use? Do you have to reduce the paint?
Also, what kinda gun do you spray with? I have a small touch up gun that can still spray out a nice size. Not sure if that would work unless i took my time and did it panel by panel

no need to reduce the paint but i do reduce the 2k primer4:1 its pretty thick.
i spray with a cheap finex 2000 it does an awesome job, that detail gun would probably work ok,how big is the cup on it,the primer u might have an issue with,i use a 1.8 tip for the primer, for primer just get a cheap harbor freight one that will be fine for the primer.what size tip is on that small gun you got.a 1.3 or 1.4 would be perfect for the paint and clearcoat. |

figured i might as well just continue with the body work while waiting for my tranny to be rebuilt wich will probably be a little while,,my freinds doing it for the cost of just the parts luckily,so gotta wait until he gets the free time to do it,since his tranny shop is pretty busy right now,so i been working on fixing the bumps and bruises on the passenger lower quarter, and working on the rear bumper cover that required alot of work to make it look good again, and got the upper drivers quarter all ready to lay the 2k primer down so i can start the block sanding.

was up all night working on my camaro again, got the trunk gutter all sanded down to 400 grit, cleaned and sparayed primer, also finished all the body work on the drivers rear quarter and got that sanded to 400 grit, cleaned and primered, and also started working on my hood, all i have left is the drivers door jam and the roof, door jam should be easy and im sure the roof will need to be smoothed out to make it straight again, also did the block sanding on the drivers quarter and sanded with 600 grit wet.

I love watching your progress. It is really looking great. I checked out that website for the paint and it was confusing me, I couldnt find colors, kits or anything lol but i did happen to stumble upon the Paint Shop line from duplicolor, everything comes ready to spray primer, paint, clear. they also have a metallic clear and a candy kit you can buy as well.
I am going to buy larger guns, gonna get a 1.8 primer gun and a 1.4 topcoat gun, then buy another 1.4 gun for clear. Watching this thread makes me want a project so bad! I hope to see some more pics and updates soon

That's awesome man. Your commitment to this project is commendable. I've really enjoyed watching your progress and appreciate the addition work it takes to share this with us. Thank you for taking that extra time and sharing the experience with with us.
2 regrets in my life: not documenting the progress of eith my 79 or 68 rebuilds. I was young and foolish. :0)

What kind of ventilation are you using? Also, what is your dry time from not having a paint booth and assuming no heat lamps? Any trouble with dust landing on the wet paint?
Looking superb!

Looking good man. Nice and straight! You've got some wet sanding ahead of you but when you buff all that out man is that blue gonna pop. How'd the tranny install go for you? I don't remember seeing anything about it.

clearcoated the roof didnt like how it came out originally, also got one door completely straight and in primer man u would believe how many hours i have into that one door.LOL,also got my inner fenders installed, but had a change of plans,i think im gonna do the subframe in por15 black and all the yellow parts dont think it looks as good as i hoped for with the blue.tell me what u guys think, but them blue fenders surely made my engine pop.also thinking of painting my radiator core, cobalt blue.

I love this build man!
Hey couple things. I like the blue inner wells. Is the accent color under the hood going to be yellow like the suspension parts? The reason I ask is if you're going to add the original vinyl graphics to the outside, maybe you could bring those colors under the hood and onto the wheel wells if you're not sure. It might help to tie it all together. Let me know if you need help visualizing something. I'd be happy to Photoshop something up for you. Also, I noticed your headers. I know there's a lot more room under the 79 hood than the 68, but when I first put my engine in the 68 with the headers, I was heat soaking starters like they were throw aways parts. I eventually went with a high performance starter to fix that problem, but it didn't help the placement of some of the wires from the starter and they basically sit right on the header. Well sort of. Yesterday I pulled the whole works apart And re-insulated the wires so there is some protection to those wires. I used a combination of header wrap and an old Fiberglas starter wrap that I had laying around. Here's my point: be careful when you wire it up and triple check your clearance from the starter wires in relation to the header. By the time I noticed the challenge, I had already had all my pipes bent and on the car and really couldn't make a change without shitcanning the whole exhaust system. Also the high performance start is a must with headers. (Plus it sounds cool as hell when I start it up.) It was my first real ground up build and probably a novice mistake, but it still gives me fits from time to time because eventually the extra insulation I put on the wires melts up and I'm back to square one. Just wanted to share in case. Thanks for listening.
