Auto trans oil change??
At work and was just looking for a word on the auto Oil/ filter change. Is it Dex-6 or something else? Will I need the usual 12 qt's . planning to hit this in the morning as soon as I get home. I am fixing to hit 50,000 and she has made a wierd noise like 2 times in the past couple months. cant really describe it just a weird feeling and noise on a tap shift 2nd to 3rd shift. Thought A filter and oil swap could not hurt. I cant make it reproduce the noise, tried that... anyhow, what fluid and how much would help out guys, thanks...

Yes, Dex6 is what you need. Even though GM is proud of their extended tranny fluid change intervals using Dex6, I personally would not go more than 50,000 miles even in a non severe service. If it is severe service, I would change it every 30,000 miles.
Our tranny (6l80e) holds just a tad over 12qts of fluid when bone dry. You won't be bone dry, so I would have at least eight quarts on hand. Using a boutique Dex6 approved tranny fluid is a waste of money IMO. Any off the shelf Dex6 GM licensed manufacturer is all that you will ever need.

OK, cool deal, yea I like to change all trans at 50, intervals reguardless of use. I am hard on her so she is due some TLC, Your right I should be changing her at 30, which I will start ASAP, 8 qts thats not bad at all so I will pick some up in the morning and get ER done lol...
Is there some special way to check/fill the fluid on these A-6 cars?? Or just the same old same old.......??? |

If you figure out how to do it please post up a DIY. I've been told that the auto tranny has to be dropped in order to be changed due to the fill location.
