I think the lower one (black) looks much better. I checked mine and it has no purple. I think purple on an IOM would look pretty bad.

Well since the purple style was manufacturing process defect not a different part number there is not way for them to replace the part with a "purple" one. they are all the same part number in the system most likely. The ones with the purple tint getting out of the plant was most likely a QC oversight and was never intended to happen. I think they have even switched suppliers now.

Want purple? Really easy too do! Just have any resin cured at higher temps and any resin will turn purple. This is not a desired property as the cured resin is going to be weaker. I have seen this in polyester resin used on boats, high ambient temps and too much catalysis and the resin gets smoking hot and turns purple. You don't want the weaker purple ECF!

The resin will not turn Purple from higher temps. The resin turns Purple from an additive that makes it cure faster, the additive is called cobalt. The faster the cure the more brittle and shrinking the part will have. Over the long haul I would not want a heavy purple piece as it is possible that problems may occur latter on down the road. Warping, cracking, shrinking and hazing are all possible if cured to hot. |
