Also where the stock crossmember mount hole is in relation to the same spot on trans.

The difference in shifter location from a ls1 t56 and a TR6060 is 3.5 inches
The big difference is the bell housing
ls1 = 5.5 inches
Tr6060 = 9.5 inches
so it should put the shifter within .5 of an inch and according to these pics the trans mount should be damn close as well.

Shifter location didn't look too bad in those pics. I'm liking it!

I'm not sure what to say...

Clutch... WOW, simply amazing... Remember, today is the first time the car has been started since it was installed... Backing out of the shop was easy, and there didn't appear to be any of the on/off switch like action I had with my old twin disc... It engages very smoothly, no shuddering, no grabbing no rattle or anything else often associated with the big HP high end clutches...

It is simply way beyond anything I could have imagined for the power it will handle... and even better engaging than the factory clutch was in my opinion...

The clutch engages pretty high up so there is plenty of pedal travel and room for the discs to disengage...

Thank You Thomas of Hendrix Engineering... I am truly impressed with your clutch...

Transmission... OMG...What a masterful piece of equipment...

I pulled out of the shop, (bare in mind the car hasn't been tuned since the new larger turbo's were installed so no hammering on it) and accelerated in first gear, stabbed the clutch and click-click, I'm in second... accelerate a little more, again stab the clutch, click-it self centered-click, and I'm in third... wash rinse and repeat for each gear...

This thing is absolutely the smoothest, slickest, easiest and most positive position shifting transmission I have ever operated... This is shifting nirvana... I can't really find the words to describe how easy and precise it is... and this was on a transmission that literally has just had fluid put in it... started and driven... The throw on the shifter is very short and very precise... Like I mentioned earlier, it self centers, with no sloppiness, no confusion as to where you are... and an overall amazing feel...

I leave Sunday for a month offshore, and the car will be buttoned up... boost controller, adjustable lower control arms, new Aeromotive return fuel system and lots of other stuff... and the center console will be redesigned and put in the car... but let me say....

I can rest easy knowing I made absolutely the right decision, on this trans and this clutch...

When I arrive back, it'll be time to crank up the boost, and get some real driving in this car... on the street and more importantly on the track... A clutch to hold the power and a trans that shifts like butter will make it a true pleasure to drive....

I wish I had taken a picture of the shift rod we fab'ed up for temporary use... It was a 3/8" X 1 inch piece of high grade aluminum... cut to 8 inches in length, and two holes drilled in it for mounting... We will build a shift rod with a one inch (forward) offset and 6.5 inches tall and then put a shift knob on top of that... It will still have a very short and very close throw even at that height...

For anyone experiencing difficulty shifting the factory, or a modified factory transmission, I really feel this will resolve your issues should you decide to bite the bullet...

I'll be adding to this thread after i return from work next month...

Ed, I still need to and will get the measurements you asked for... but it will be about a month... after I get back from work offshore...
Thanks! It never gets old hearing the comments about the StreetSlayer glad you love it

I have talked with several people about it and the easy consensus is that this is the best clutch out there... Bar none... and this consensus was from several people that have run the gamut of available clutches... Not just one person that used one other Clutch...

I was even steered to this Street Slayer Triple clutch by a vendor that sells a competing companies clutch due to the fact that he knew the other clutch I was considering would not hold our intended power with a car this heavy and he was bluntly honest... I for one appreciate this more than you could know...

I am using the original slave unit... There is a pretty easy modification that has to be done... There is a thin metal disc that has to be removed and the little tabs have to be trimmed out of the center. You'll understand when you get it...This is to accomodate the new throwout bearing supplied with the clutch... There are no snap rings or slip pins that hold the throwout bearing on... It's just a cap that is usually under compression... slowly pry it around the inside and it'll pop out... Remove the green dust cover boot, and the spring, and then the little metal plate.. There are actually two metal discs connected together... One of them has the tabs... Carefully seperate them and I used a die grinder with a mild steel bur to knock down the biggest part of the tabs, and then a sanding drum to finish it and smooth it out... I test fit it and when it slipped on easily, I put it all back together...

The metal discs are joined by some tiny little tabs on one of them that fit into the other and are bent over... One of mine was broken off but it didn't matter... I slid them apart, did the mods and put it back together and it works great...Again, you'll easily understand it when you get into it... If I can figure it out....
Thanks for info.... gotta dig my takeoff parts out from the attic

Ok, here is the latest update on my transmission/clutch issues...

I believe they are a thing of the past....

We finally got to do some shakedown runs the other day, and I am posting a video of them...

Please note that while the runs are not exemplary, though they do provide valuable information to me...

Current car set up...

We haven't changed anything performance wise since the motor was originally built over a year ago, other than changing out to bigger turbos.

There were a couple of reasons for this but they are not relevant here...The latest dyno pull showed 670 RWHP and 825 RWTQ. Bare in mind it was over a hundred degrees in the dyno bay and I do not have stock gearing. We were not concerned about the power at this time, but more the stability and sturdiness of the driveline. Diff gears are 3.07's and the trans gearing is different than stock as well, which is reflected in the HP numbers.

Traction... I am currently sporting Weld RTS wheels with 17 x 10 rears and 17 x 5 fronts. I have Hoosier 28 x 10 x 17 Slicks on the rear and M&H skinnies on the front...

Transmission... as you know if you have followed along to this point is a Rockland Standard Gear TR 6060 that is highly modified with an extended tailshaft housing, internal shift mechanism and every gear and shaft internal to it is of 9310 material other than 6th gear, which is an OEM gear to my knowledge... George of RSG personally built this trans and challenged me to break it... I'm still trying... no success on my part yet...

Clutch... After speaking with several vendors, I got a good lead and talked to Thomas at Hendrix Performance and bought the Street Slayer Triple Disc Carbon Clutch. This is by far one of the best engineered pieces I have ever owned. It has very docile manners on the street, with absolutely no on/off switch tendencies, and is a beast on the track... which led to the failure on the part of the driver during my first couple of passes...

Drive Shaft... Driveshaft Specialist in San Antonio built me a 4" one piece custom fitted to this car from the trans output shaft to the diff. It's a tight fit, but it fits perfectly, and the tight fit is not an issue since neither the trans or the diff move at all once installed with good mounts. This includes solid mounts for the motor to prevent deflection during hard launches.

Differential... Driveshaft Shop nine inch with a Strange center section and a wave track 33 spline differential. It also has axles rated for 1400 HP.

Driver... I'm freely admitting that with a car this well built and powerful, I'm am a noob... as you'll see in the video...

Suffice it to say I am extremely happy with the entire driveline from fly wheel back...I feel it is about as stout as can be made....

So to my runs...

1st run... Good burnout, 2500 RPM's at the line, quickly come off the clutch pedal and roll into the gas... and (insert silence) WT.... the data logging we were doing showed a lowest RPM of 170 before I got back on the clutch and stabbed the gas... Finally got her off the line and finished out the run... Dismal time, but lessons learned... The shifts were really quick and precise, with no grinding or problems at all... It is obviously harder to launch a big HP car with slicks than it is with street tires or drag radials, both of which presented no problem to me...

2nd run... Good burnout, staged, and held the RPM's at about 4000 and launched the car... sort of... Again, she fell on her face pretty hard.... but I managed to get her going and finished out the run... Again, then shifts were quick and precise as the would remain all evening...

3rd run... Burnout, staged and held around 4800 RPM's, came off the clutch and she stumbled just a tad bit and launched... To this point, there has been no tire spin and certainly no clutch slip... To take a 4200 lb car with 825 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels and damn near kill the motor several times, the clutch is seriously biting.... HARD... yet it still retains the street friendly manners of a stock feeling clutch...

4th run... I made up my mind I was getting this boat off the line... so... a burnout... not a great one but a burnout none-the-less... Staged, as the lights dropped, when the middle amber lit up, I ramped into the gas, and somewhere around 5200 launched the car, coming off the clutch nd hammering the gas... There was no wheel hop at all, though I spun all through first with the car slipping first left and then a little right across the track... Inever came off the gas... jammed second, then third, and ran a personal best ever in a car... with a 10.92 at 129 mph...

Note as you watch the video, that you can see the front end dip just for a moment as I shift gears, and there is no noticeable drop in boost...

I am absolutely thrilled with my choice to stay with the manual transmission and with the parts supplied by the various vendors that I dealt with...

In order from the flywheel back

Hendrix Performance... Street Slayer Triple Disc Carbon Clutch
Rockland Standard Gear... Built TR 6060 with Spun Steel scatter shield
Driveshaft Specialists of San Antonio 4" one piece drive shaft with 1350 u-joints front and rear...
Drive Shaft Shop Nine inch IRS with the Wavetrack 33 spline diff in a Strange center section. 1400 HP rated axles...

One thing I noted was that the car does not squat on launching so there is some missing weight shift... This will be fixed upon my return to the country in a little over four weeks when Pete from Pedders is installing a full Pedders set up... XA Supercars, bushings etc...

I have solid motor mounts, a high durometer urethane trans mount, delrin diff bushings, BMR adjustable lower control arms, trailing arms and adjustable toe rods... aftermarket lowering springs and sways.

Enjoy....

Not really, the first launch I dang near killed it from too much traction and not enough gas. Same thing on the second run... Better on the third run... and just got after it on the 4th run...

The 4th run is the only run where there was any tire spin at all...

and yes, these are Hoosier Slicks... Very sticky tires. D06 compound...

Nice run. I have to say these manual car are humbling at the track....they are a completely different animal to get out of the hole.

Nice runs.... I'll bet it feels good to be shifting again

I'd like to change from the M&H drag radials to the Hoosier slicks , but afraid of getting the softer compound damaged driving it 40 miles to the track or getting pulled over after they see the huge "Hoosier" white letters!

Can't wait to see your setup at Cfest

It feels great to have the shifter go where I want it and have it stay put...

I was simply amazed at how much difference the sticky soft slicks offered. Even the third launch, which was good but not great was relatively gentle... No major slam in the back... Just sat up and went...

I bought a trailer yesterdayand so the which tire to use is a thing of the past... It'll be ready for the Fest... or someone is getting a butt chewing... Not really.... They promised me three weeks from yesterday...

Here is mostly what it will look like... DangeruSS did the rendering in an approximate color... The doors on the box will also be steel not aluminum...

The Fest is going to be a hoot... no doubt...

Uhm.... soon, kinda sorta maybe...

Put it this way... I currently have a legal car down to ten flat... so... some nice passes in Indy working on my driving and then when it's getting close... I'll see if I can make them throw me off the track... Then it's serious party time...
