Looking to swap out Flowmaster mufflers for?

the flow master mufflers are shaking the windows in my elderly neighbors house. cool, i know.

anyways, im looking for a way to quiet it down just a bit, and still retain the 3" all the way out, and not lose power. im thinking j pipes would loose the resonance (drone that is probrably shaking his windows).

Can anyone recommend a 3" muffler that is quieter than the flowmaster?

Drone does do that. The Jpipes got rid of it and made the cold idle and all more quiet. But I have stock resonators also and they help, sounds like you have the catback AMT?

car has LT's with high flow cats w/ 3" amt catback. the 2.5" section was removed. its 3" all the way through now.

im doing j pipes tomorrow, well see how much that helps.

thing is, i leave for work at 5:30. i dont drive this car every day though. im sure they would get over it if i leave it, i just do not want to start anything with them. the car isnt legal where i live (i could rant for a whole page about this), so obviously im risking multiple tickets and an impound. most cops are cool though, as long as your not out racing, doing burnouts, or not just plain being an ass. obviously the more often you get in trouble, thier patience will wear thin.

O.k., well J's help the drone and a very little bit to make it more quiet but not much. All you did makes it loud. I dont know if magnaflow makes a 3" resonated x pipe, like a muffler with x pipe in it. That would help tone it down, mnaybe 25-30%? and make it deeper sounding also.

That's what I was planing to do as well. Will get my car back next week (cam, heads install). Already have LTs, 3" HF Cats and a full 3" Borla Catback. So I'm pretty sure I need to quiet down as well.

I first want to try the magnaflow resonated 3" X-Pype before looking for an entierly new exhaust.

When will you do the install? Before and after soundclip? Keep me posted. Thanks

I drove my car for about a half hour yesterday. i parked it on a street. i went into a shop, where the guys in there thought i was going to race down the street. i told them i barely idled in. Later o got into my car and when i started it, a car alarm around the corner went off.

seriously, its really loud. i cant even listen to the radio at an idle with the volume less than 20. I was so concerned about getting a ticket that i couldnt even enjoy it.

i talked to a guy who posted in a different thread, he did the same thing. he said it made the car about 30% quieter.

i can do a before and after video. ive done all my own exhaust work my self, but for this one im going to have a local custom exhaust guy do it beause the pipes will need to be bent. he is going to intall the new center x muffler, and replace the flowmaster mufflers with magna flows. he seems pretty confident it will make it noticably quieter while still maintaining the 3" exhause completely through. after looing at it, by the time i look at how much i spent with the cheap 3" amt, the modifications to make it 3" completely thru, plus this guy making changes to make it quieter, i should have just went to him and had him do a full custom exhaust in the first place. hind sight is always 20/20 they say.

Yeah that appears to be a 3" resonated x pipe. Cool

its perforated on the inside also. should make a huge dent in how loud it is. i hope gettign rid of the flowmaster mufflers take away the drone. it was unbearable in the cabin after the engine build.

Why not just install the magnaflow resonated X-pipe first and see how you like it?
You'll get the resonated X-pipe installed anyway. After the shop installed the X-pipe you could drive a lil and decide then if you still want to swap the mufflers.

Just my 2.

had the magnaflow 3" x pipe resonator added in today. it made the car much quieter (probrably about 30-40%). i considered leaving the flow masters on, but they still had drone, at idle to 2k rpm. it sounded great on the outside of the car though. i had them swapped out also for some 3" magnaflow straight thru mufflers. it toned it down just a little bit more, but the drone is almost completely gone, and the car is noticably quieter. i can hear the radio again, and even take calls on the bluetooth.

i was going to post videos of before and after, but my camera phone does no justice (injustice?) to the difference in sound levels.

no regrets here.
