Questions about Private Offer and Advertising Fee

I am going to be ordering a 2013 2SS Vert in July. The offers are coming in from the dealers now and the first one I got had a 2% advertising fee on it. Is this standard for all dealers? I am getting it below dealer invoice before the advertising fee, but ouch.

Also, if I obtain one of the $1,000 private offers from Chevy's website, do I use it when I order the car and put down a deposit, or do I use it when I pick up the car from the dealer?

Thanks.

From what I've seen the car has to be delivered before the expiration.

The $1,000 private offer is only applicable to 2012 model year vehicles, and is only good until 7/2/2012.

I was hoping that another one would be available in July or August. That doesn't mean that they will start including the 2013 models though...

Most dealers do have an advertising fee on their invoice from GM. It can range from one quarter percent to two percent. Some dealers have 0 advertising but those are usually in rural areas away from any large cities or metroplexes.

Is the advertising included within the invoice price? Or is it tacked on along with TTL at the end?

Advertising is added after invoice pricing; at least, that is how they are doing it to me. I take the price after all fees and will see what each one will give on my trade in. May the best dealer win, hopefully on July 7

Advertising fees are dealer tacked on and is not part of the GM pricing. I've never paid a advertising fee and never had an issue telling a salesman to take it off if they try to tack it on.

The private offer can't be used until you take delivery and it has an expiration date so make sure you take delivery before that date. I just got a $1,500 offer but it doesn't include '13s. From all the ones I've gotten in the past, I've never seen a private offer include the latest MY until late fall.

I've had that problem. I asked the dealer to take it off because I couldn't agree to pay for their advertisement fees. That is part of the cost of doing business for the dealer and should be within their profit margins.

There was a large argument so I decided to leave.

If anyone can explain if the customer should or should not pay for the advertisements, that would be a big help.

Advertising charges are included in the invoice price of the car, and are included in the invoice printout that your dealer will show you... however GM kicks these charges back to the dealer, so IMO they are not part of the dealers cost. To see the invoice w/o advertising, go to edmunds.com and lookup the car - Edmunds shows you invoice pricing on every model and every factory option. When you compare Edmund's invoice to dealer invoice, dealer invoice is always higher.

Even Edmund's invoice doesn't necessarily reflect true dealer cost because GM offers dealers other types of assistance/incentives, but its as close as you can reasonably get.
