Engine bay cleaning
So I've searched and I know I saw a thread somewhere (a junkman one to boot), but can't find it now. Anyhow I wanted to know what it the best process to clean my engine bay, I have heard simple green works nice, but am a bit hesitant to spray water in there (even a light mist). It's not really dirty, but there are spots I'd like to get to that are a bit tough to reach. I even blew away some dust with my Metro Turbo Blower, but still want it to pop.
Any help is appreciated. |

Its a little dated now as far as some of the exact products, but heres a tutorial I put together on my specific process, and its on a camaro so its relevant
![]() As far as the water goes... its really nothing to be worried about. You can clean without it if it makes you more comfortable using a towel and waterless wash or detail spray, but its just so much easier to use a little water. I've cleaned literally HUNDREDS of engine bays using the process above, and not one has ever had a problem because of it.

Your engine compartment isn't water tight...using water to clean is fine...I avoid spraying the electronics however

Searched 'engine bay cleaning' and got two pages of threads....anyway no high pressure. Once you get it clean, just wipe down every car wash. When fire wall and fender wells (and other places you cannot wipe) get dusty or dirty, time to wash again....I use Adams APC cut 50/50 and bh brush with soft water rinse.
a soft water or distilled water rinse is handy as it cuts down on spoting where you cannot dry...leaf blower also helps cut down on w-spots.. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/search...rchid=15401476 |

I simply rinse the engine compartment with low pressure water and avoid constant running water on the fuse box/ignition coils. I run the engine for about 5 minutes afterwards to dry everything. I do all this once every 2 months and I've never had an issue.
There is no need to use engine degreasers/cleaners, etc. if you rinse down the engine compartment regularly. I wouldn't even use "protectants" because they will just attract dust and dirt.
