Camaro wins Sahlen's 6 hrs at the Glen

Great day for Chevrolet racing.

Camaro finished 1st and fifth in the GT series and Corvette placed first and second in the Daytona Prototype at the Grand AM-Rolex race today from Watkins Glen.

The Camaro's looked like a school bus running around the track compared to the other cars but man they had good power on the straight aways and hills.

The Turner BMW M3 gave them a pretty good run at the end, so, if they look like a school bus and won, I can't imagine what the BMW looked like. That was a great race!

I used the term "school bus" to mean the Camaros look big relative to the Mazdas, BMWs, Ferraris, Porsches and most definitely the Daytona prototypes. That large rear spoiler gives the illusion that it's so much taller than the other cars.

During the last part of the race it looked the Turner BMW was going make up ground on the Camaro through the corners only to have it pull away again on the straights and hills.

+1 on being a great race. The Glen is quickly becoming one of may favorite courses.

It was a great race. The camaro team was well synchronized and firing on all cylinders.

Hey Figjam,

Those pics are priceless man. My daughter is about the same age and I would have loved to have been there with her for that. Those will be memories you two will have for a lifetime. That smile on her face in the first picture is proof that she was super excited and it was a perfect setup for the second picture. I didn't mean to laugh but I just pictured my daughter doing the same thing. Congratulations on her scoring the bowtie!

Something about this series really bothers me: How can the Mazda run as fast as it does (I know they have giant latent potential)? On the street, that thing is a dog and many Chevy Cobalts beat them regularly. It just seems wrong that a car with so little power is allowed to mod to the point where they outrun Ferrari 458s, Corvettes, Porsche GT3s, Audi R8s and of course the Camaro SS. Realism should prevail to a degree. The rules must be very liberal and limit HP to a certain level. Also, I saw they limited the Ford Delaras by a couple hundred RPM. I wonder if they are using the Coyote engine in the Ford camp?

I got it now...thanks. You're right, they don't look aerodynamic at all and as a matter of fact Road America clearly showed what happens when you race a school bus type aero design against Porsches and even the Mazda RXs.

As in Nascar, these cars are far from stock. Stevenson's Camaros are built by Pratt & Miller, have a tube chassis and carbon fiber bodies. The only thing stock on them is the rear bumper cover. The wing is the same on all cars in the Rolex series, the DPs just have different end plates. The Mazda's aren't so much modded as everyone else is de-tuned. In person the Mazda's sound like a lawn mower about to blow up while the Camaro just sounds bad-ass

I love the look of the camaro running with those other teams. The Camaro looks like a Beast and bullying them all over the course. When you look in the rear view mirror and see that monster hammering your ass.. you move aside or he will move you aside. You don't see a Mazda or Porsche have attitude like that. Well they can, but it just makes the driver of the camaro laugh and gets distracted.

Go Stevenson!!!
