If you were going to paint you engine cover, does anyone have any recommendations on which products to use and how to prep it?

product is your personal choice. Prep. use a 1000 grit sandpaper to sand it. it wont take much if anything away. Mask off whatever you dont want paint. I got the green 3M automotive masking tape. Then adhesion promoter. 2 to 3 coats. Then primer. 2 to 3 coats. Base color 2-3 coats and finally clearcoat 2 to 3 coats. follow the instructions in the cans for each product. I used duplicolor. But if you want color match, use automotivetouchup.com they are pretty good with their paints and match. You also could wetsand as your apply the color for a more glossy finished product.

What Wuiquen said but wipe down clean with a non residue solvent (reducer or alcohol type) after scuffing.
