Trackday Checklist!

So i will be doing a trackday sometime within the next couple of months. Streets of Willow or the Roval at Fontana here in CA. I wanna know what I need to do to the car to get it ready for the track.

Ive talked to many people and they say I need to get braided brake lines, higher temp brakes pad, and higher temp brake fluid.

Also how about the fact that the clutch fluid is in the same resivoir as the brake fluid

Anything else needed or recommended? And name me some good brands/parts for the things I need!

Thanks! See ya at the track

You should invest in

Thanks! this was exactly the answer I was looking for. Id hate to go around a turn and have no brakes whatsoever.

How about the brake and clutch reservoir?

First question would be how many track days have you done?

If this is your first event - change to something other than ceramic pads, flush brake fluid, listen to your instructor and have fun.
Yea its a simple list for a newbie.

If you are more experienced I'd still just change the pads and run it stock to learn how it drives. Thats what I did with my v6 - put carbotech xp8's on all four corners, bed the pads in. times at CMP were probably 20 sec slower than my regular track car, at VIR probably 30 sec slower due to the speed limiter.

Now if I was going to track it to be competitive in time trials or something like that - I could spend another $10K on suspension and tuning upgrades

A few more questions:

How many more are you going to do?

Do you want to have fun, be safe, and make the Porsche's, BMW's and occasional Vette look silly? This is the part I have the most fun with.

If the answer is yes to either then I would suggest Carbotech XP10 Front, at least, and XP8 Rear for pads. Then you should also upgrade your rotors, I like the DBA4000. I tried the Hawk pads and found them to be less than ideal to haul down the kind of weight we are carrying on a track. Fine for street, not for track.

It is not a bad idea to split your clutch and brake reservoirs and use at least DOT4 for both. Steel brake lines should be a given.

Give Jordan a call at JDP Motorsports. He has taken good care of me.

Remember your passing zones, hydrate and have fun.

T.

PS. Brakes are only part of the equation. Tires and suspension also play a key role but it is an important start.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

So lets say im only going to do maybe 1-3 trackdays a year, do i need just the front brake pads? or front and rear?
Also... How about rotar wear with these High Performance pads? Anything the dealer will take out of my warranty for seeing the wear or new pads?
SORRY....TOTAL NOOB HERE

First typical pads and rotors are not covered under warranty because they are a natural wear item driving styles will wear stock equipment at different levels.
While all of the above advice is good. Lets look at the objective here. That is to take your car out and have fun learn to drive at high performance levels and be safe. While i am not familar with the two tracks you mention we have drove many of the CA tracks. The Camaro is a heavy car with a high center of gravity is a fast car which requires good braking. I can speak for Sebring International Raceway/Miami Homestead/Road Atlanta as we are the offical track support for all CHIN events and Sebring will eat a pair of stock pads up in a few 30 min sessions on the track, it will destroy and boil stock brake fluid in the same time. Many guys show up and don't get to complete there day.
Not knowing who your sanctioning body is, or who is putting on the events you plan to attend but most also require a current Snell rated helmet
Fronts pads for sure
Rear optional
Motul RB600 brake fluid in the master cylinder and complete brake bleed.
Maintain and check tire pressures
Torgue wheel lugs
Option Go Pro Camera
For one -three track days a year brake lines are nice see first if you like it and plan to do more. Before you invest
Have fun drive safe listen to your instructor.
Everything else and more can be added if you chose to move forward.
