new door speakers
Im thinking of getting new door speakers, I already have the Boston acoustics stereo the first one they put in the early build ones. Im stuck between either just putting alpine sps-610c's in or having a Kenwood components out in and power every speaker with a 760 watt kenwood amp and that install is going to cost me like 750 bucks and thats new new speaker wire and everything. Which I want to and then dont want to do. What would be best ? The stereo shop would has layaway and everything. Would the factory amp power the alpines efficiently enough.I do have the harness that subthump makes were u can add a higher power amp with me. Which would be best

I would suggest starting with replacing the amp. The amp is the real weak spot in the BA system. If the amp alone does not satisfy your needs, then start replacing speakers. Replacing the BA speakers is a good idea, but the amp should really be the first thing to go if you're working on a budget.
It's like this: The BA system is like serving you poop on an aluminum plate. The poop is the sound from the amp. Replacing speakers is like just replacing the plate. You're still going to be eating poop.

So what is a good....not super expensive amp replacement that fits in the stock location? I think I've read about some suggestions from SubThump before, but I'm always open for more ideas lol.
Also, what are the chances of shortening the life, or blowing the stock speakers by replaceing the stock amp? The last thing I want to do is blow a rear speaker because I've read its a real PITA to change those out.

Hey Ted, if you are looking for a good component speaker at a reasonable price, the Alpine will be a good choice. They don't give you a ton on the really low end, but will be good for mids and highes in the system and compliment a sub well. There are quite a few reviews on our site.

Are there any 5-channel amps that will fit in the factory location? Or do they all need to be mounted elsewhere?

Not sure about a 5-channel amp, but for sure the JL Audio XD400/4 will fit in the stock location where the BA amp is. I've had the JL amp for over a year now, and I've been extremely happy with it. I also upgraded the front components and rear speakers to Alpine Type-R's

I posted this question awhile back regarding 5 channel amps in the stock location.

I believe a bracket can be fabricated to make the JL HD900/5 fit.
