So i don't know how many pens you guys were using to do the whole car? I just ran out after 4 pens with the steering wheel, the shifter knob, and some of the driver's side door still to go.

Yes, a fabric dye pen will stain the cloth. It works on the leather seats because it's only absorbed in the stitching and wipes off of the leather.

I used less than 2 myself. Been 6 months and touched them up with one more pen.

Dye stitching

I did my stitching orange 2 years ago with Y&C Fabric Mate pen purchased at hobby lobby and it still looks good. They have 2 different marker pins one fine point and one with a wider tip, I usd both and the dye did not rub off at all. Attached picture of the shift boot still Orange, seats look just as good.

I bought the Y&C Fabric mate pen (yellow) from Hobby Lobby for our stitching and it turned out pea green..... NOT a good match for our Rally Yellow... I guess yellow and greyish make green?!?
I only did about 10 stitches on the left rear seat and stopped.
Then I went to Joann Fabric and bought the DecoFabric pen, the one mentioned on the first or second page of this thread.
We will see if that yellow is 'yellow'.

I used the DecoFabric pen in yellow on mine and it really pops. It's a good match for the rally yellow.

Radio knobs

My wife ordered the radio knobs from Chevrolet Camaro Mall catalog. It was the anodized orange billet set includes the radio, turn signal, door locks and trunk release.

As they say, 'the right tool for the job makes all the difference'..
I started around 9:30 and here it is 11:10, all I have left is the passenger seat. And I need one more pen, 2 used so far. It turned out awesome.
Thanks for the confidence boost by those who have done this so far.
I can not stress enough how much of an improvement this is to the factory look.

This was a test using the passenger headrest. I used Elmer's Painters for the red color. Very rich, and really stands out from the cloth. Should have the rest of the interior done over the weekend:

Since Walmart only sold medium tip painters, I used the X-acto knife to pare it down to a point.

Now the "hard" part. Draw *only* over the stitching. Remember that this is very much like paint, so it easily smears over the fabric. I used a combination of dotting motions and light strokes to fill each segment in.

Before & After:

There are a few imperfections, and I touched up the stitching shortly after taking this photo. But for the most part, the little inconsistencies are only visible when looking at the stitching from around 3-4 inches away.

Have any other pics after you finished? Have any problems with dying it besides smearing? What in all did you dye besides the headrest? Btw, It looks really good. Keep up the good work.

Good job bro. I also took the plung months ago after i saw someone post a youtube vid doing it. that really gave me the confidence to do it. Dont forget to do the SS on the headrest and the airbag tags on the side of the seats

Thanks man. I did do the SS on the headrest, the outer edge, not the center of the SS. I debated on the airbag tags. I'm gonna hold off for now.

So I dye stitched my interior yellow and it came out great on the seats, but i'm having trouble with the shifter knob and steering wheel areas. I'm using a Decofabric pen by the way. When I did the seats i would just run the pen over it then run a towel with some leather cleaner over it to pick up the excess dye, but when i do this on the shifter knob and steering wheel areas it's picking up a lot of the dye and leaving it looking dull. The dye doesn't seem to attach as well to these areas. Any tips from those of you that have done this already?

Rather than "spreading" and wiping, I did "stitch by stitch".
For me the shifter and steering wheel were the easiest parts.

In all I spent 4 hours doing it but it came out flawless.

I had the same issue on the gear selector and realized the thread is dirty, preventing the dye from really working.
I cleaned it with some fabric cleaner and did the dye again after it dried, much better results.

99% Finished

Overall I am really happy with how the Decofabric pen turned out. Especially the SS on the headrest.

I also bought the same marker but in yellow. But the yellow was not bright enough even after 2 coats so I am going to try a different brand of marker.

& here is a close up shot...you can see a little bit of dye on the black, but from more than about a foot away, it's impossible to see

all told, it took me about 2 hours to do it all
