then call GM cust service and see if that helps you. they may be able to call the dealer and tell them they are sending someone to do it.? i know they are pretty much useless too, but if this is top #3, i would think they would want it done right (isnt 3rd time supposed to be a charm?)

my argument would be, this is a brand new design that has to be hybrid into my existing top/mehanics. NO convertible shop is going to know how to perform it properly, and since they dont want to pay for a complete new mechanism that would be installed in one piece, then have someone TRAINED in these new tops do it.

Throw it off a cliff. Hulk style! Big explosion! FIRE FIRE FIRE! Nothing is going to be as "right" as the original top. I"m convinced of this. I'll send good vibes your way. Or some matches!!

im sure they dont want you tearing into the box, and thats why they wont let you see it. prob better off, if you open it, chances are they will lose something from it when in transport to the installer. i feel for you man, i hope whoever they sub it to has the knowledge to get it right!!

i still dont understand why they/gm wont send someone trained to do it?? there must be something real special about your car, seems they really want to buy it back eventually...

And that they will. I don't understand the stubbornness either. I have requested that this be dealt with by a factory technician. The response has been take it up with the dealer or find one that has trained techs. I've been really nice, but let me tell you I am losing all the patience I've had. My guess is they must really want this car back very badly.

I can appreciate not wanting anything missing out of the box, and of course that was rectified immediately - I'll have the chance to look at it all before it's installed.

Thankfully I was smart enough to get the "We Owe" slip on my convertible top this time around as a condition of purchase, but the not-so-extended warranty thing got by my eyes at the signing table for the same vehicle. I have requested a full refund for this in writing, with an explanation of why it is irrelevant to this vehicle and should not have been offered in the first place by an over zealous finance person. We'll see how that goes.

Ozone works great eliminating odors.
Ozonators will degrade all rubber components.
Is there anything rubber in a Camaro's interior?

I had clothes "ozoned" after smoke damage. Everything with elastic rubber in it was ruined.
Anything stretchy came out brittle and crackly, but smelled fine!

Be careful.

The arrogance and insolence of these GM reps is simply put; appalling. Its a easy as "stand behind the product you sold me" and yet we are treated like we are subserviants who are asking for the path to the Holy Grail.

Even through all this, the position GM has (in my case), is they are doing this only because they are trying to make me happy.......not that there is anything wrong with their product (in spite of the obvious problems).

Glad you had a good laugh! I wish we had done the fixes to the original top before letting the buffoons touch ours. We'd still have the 2011 if we did. There were suggested fixes on here but we were stupid enough to let GM touch the car and "fix" it which resulted in holes and a replaced top. And yes, the original TOP was better. The car was never the same after it was replaced. The proverbial can of worms.

Ours had many other issues besides the top that prompted the buy back. The new car seems (knocking on a forest of virgin timber) to be OK so far. Just over 3500 miles and no issues. By this time with the old car we could see the classic \ / rub marks.

Just as a comparison we were able to inspect all the parts AND the car in various sorts of disarray through the process and even took pictures of the top/mech/water management system before it was installed. The service manager held work until I could get there to look at it all. I don't get why each dealership can be so damned different in policy.

yeah i remember reading about all the issues with your first one. glad the replacement is holding up well!! mine got worse after the recall was done as well. ended up with waves on both sides, worse wind noise than before they touched it, and yet still had rub marks, and the pinch/hole form behind the drivers side quarter window. im hopefull the new design works out well, because i love my 45th vert, and i know i wont be able to find another if/when i have to do a buy back.

i just left the body shop that painted the quarter, because there was dust and wet sand scratch marks in the new paint. they said they told the dealer when they picked it up to have me schedule an appointment in 3-4 weeks to have the car brought back after the paint fully cures and they would buff and paste wax the entire car. that info was never relayed to me, and i even brought the marks and dust spots to the dealers attention. gotta love the lack of communication LOL. im just happy that the job doesnt have to be re-done! so little by little, my car is becoming the car i paid for.

3-4 weeks?? When we were hit in the rear quarter panel and had it repainted they said no wax for 90 days. Funny how every shop handles this stuff differently! Glad your car is getting to the point where you are happier with it. I know just how frustrating that all is. There is hope!!

I still want to shove his off a cliff, though.

yeah i feel for him... im glad this will be my first (and hopefully last) top replacement. im frustrated enough with mine, i could only imagine being on top #2, 3, water leaks, etc... keeping fingers crossed this is the permanent fix!!

they mustve buffed yours perfect when they did it. they told me, especially with black, they tell every customer to come back 3-4 wks later for a complete detail, which gets out any imperfections. they do the whole car, buff and paste wax, so im pretty syked with that actually. means i dont have to wax it till it gets put away for winter .

It is my understanding that the new top kit is indeed a huge improvement over the old canvas top. The installers working on my car this week already have the old top off, but when they opened the box there was a completely different animal in there. Thus, they stopped and made the call. Instruction sheet was sent over to them to aid in replacing the old top with the new retro-fit release. Hoping for the best next week when I get it back.

Meanwhile, test drove a 2007 Z51 Corvette 3LT today. Now that was fun. Opened that thing up and it was gone. Only 30K on the ODO and all service records, not a ding or scratch in it, perfect all over, looks like the new GS they have in the showroom. LOL, and priced at $30K. This whole ball game has me looking back at Corvettes again....

I have to agree. Currently driving a 2001 Vette, a 2007 Suburban, and a 2008 Avalanche, I regret the loss of good dealers [because of the bailout] and the fact that QC of "the new GM" has left the building.

I love this Camaro but after her, I'm afraid to buy GM.

Sounds to me like GM truly is Government Motors. No joke.
We might as well all be driving U.S. Postal Service Cars.

July 31st. Day 14 of this service visit alone, and has now surpassed 100 days out of service since January. :(

Think of the low mileage you'll have at trade-in time!

That really sucks. I though my 51 since September was bad.

Mike, you're 2001 Vette - is it the 5.7 ?

Lightbulb Just "WOW"

You really dooooo have patience ! I checked on the 2010 and '11 convertibles as they came out and the top/set-up fit really sucked. The seats in the SS 's were crap too. Finally they got a '12 Rally Yellow in that looked and (seats) felt good..so I bought it..and it will BE traded in on a NEW ZL1 conv. as soon as they get one in thats my color... hope everything finally works out for you.........Then trade it in!

camaro pee

more problems caused by the install than if the original top had been left just to eat itself. i too have the "camaro pee pee pants" when i drive in the rain. i wish one of these big shot g.m. execs had to walk into a meeting with a wet crotch from a leaking top and explain to the board how it is normal
