I am pretty sure that GM said that there would only be two V8 DI motors, the 5.3L and 6.2L...the 5.5L for the Corvette was its own special purpose built for that series.

Only 440 HP?

I've heard it said that GM won't put the same engines in Camaros as in the Vette since they don't want anything GM beating the halo car. But, why would Corvette be concerned about a Camaro beating a Corvette when there's 800 or more pounds in weight difference? If that would happen, bone stock, they definitely need to dump the Vette! Give the Camaro the same engines as the Vette!!! Geesh!

So will there be variations of those two displacements or what?

The Corvette and the Camaro share the same engine right now in the LS3..one is made on the assembly line and the other is hand built.

Yeah but that's for the base Corvette. I don't see the top Corvette and top Camaro getting the same exact engine. Maybe displacement but not performance.

Eventually the Gen V V8 will be in all performance applications as the mass produced performance V8 replacement to the current LS engines. The question is if GM will replace the L99/LS3 in the 5th Gen Camaro with the Gen V V8 going into the C7 or just wait until the 6th Gen Camaro. There are reasons to support the change and ones not to. But none of those reasons are due to some kind of performance conflict between a 5th Gen Camaro and the new C7.

It seems kind of boring to have two engine choices for all their performance cars. Easy for the company but limits what the customer can do.

They may have two designated displacements but think of how many different applications they will go into and the HP rating of each. Saves R&D money for after market companies and GM itself..don't forget however, I don't see a written rule that either one of these engines couldn't be supercharged like the LSA or LS9!!

That's what I am hoping for. The LSA and LS9 are a great example of what I am talking about. They are very similar but very different. If that is the approach GM is taking, I don't have a problem with it.

Not sure what you mean by 2 engine choices. Variants of the Gen V will eventually replace all the current Gen IV's LS3, L99, LSA, LS7 and LS9 depending on application.

I have a spy shot of what looks like a 1LE with a LS7 in it.
I will try and post a picture once it arrives.

Sweet. If it's nothing more than a one off type deal, it would still be an awesome car.

That's what I was trying to figure out. Is it going to be two engines or the two displacements with different components giving different performance? You get what I'm trying to say?
