Celeste, My 2011 RS -Whiteknight012's Build Thread-

Some background story first:

I've been obsessed with Camaros since around 1994, when one of the moms at my elementary school showed up in a red 4th gen convertible. The way it turned heads and caused people to stare at it in admiration was not lost on me, even at that young age.

When I was in high school, they refreshed the 4th gen body style, and I liked it immediately. One of the kids at my high school had a 2002 Z28...I thought he was the luckiest guy on the planet...

A couple years later, Transformers came out. As soon as I saw Bumblebee as the 5th gen concept, I was absolutely hooked. Aside from the part where Megan Fox looks under Bumblebee's hood, the audience never reacted to anything as much as the Camaro on screen. It had the same effect on me as it did back in 1994...I was filled with awe and respect.

Finally, 2010. I had been reading about Camaro5 Fest II on the Camaro5 forums, and I was finally at the stage in my life where it was financially conceivable to look into buying a Camaro. The Fest sounded like the greatest thing ever, especially since I live in CA, which had one of the greatest caravans planned. I had to be a part of it. This time, I wouldn't be the one just looking and wishing!

I test-drove several Camaros around the valley with my Dad, which was more of a formality than anything. Unless it was a terrible experience, my mind was already made up. Thankfully, it turned out that they drive and handle just as good as they look! But of all the ones we looked at, I couldn't find "the one". Whether it was the color, the package (no way I was getting those "LS" wheels, sorry), or the price (out of my range), something was missing from the ones that we tested. So I decided that I would order exactly what I wanted, and wait a litttttle bit longer. ::Sigh:: I went to the dealership and placed my order on November 7th, 2010.

After what seemed like an eternity, I took delivery on December 27th, 2010. I had ordered a 2011 1LT/RS in CGM with black stripes- which is the single greatest color combination IMHO. I decided to go with the V6 instead of V8 completely because of cost...just wasn't in the position to afford the extra $8 grand plus tax, along with gas mileage, insurance, etc. If I could do it all again, would I go with an SS? Absolutely. Now that I'm officially an "enthusiast", it's the obvious choice. Do I have any regrets? Absolutely not.

I went to the dealership on my lunch to check her out before taking delivery that night:

I absolutely love the way CGM looks when the sunlight hits it:

I named her Celeste, which means "Heavenly". Activate permagrin in 3...2...1...

A few more pics right after I got her (apologies for the low lighting...I was just too excited to wait! ):

I had several mods planned even before I took delivery. First and foremost, I wanted to black out the front and rear bowties to match the stripes, as well as have the calipers painted Victory Red. And of course, have the windows tinted (5% rear, 50% front). I love the way the calipers look now. It really makes them stand out with the Cyber Grey, and gives it that "Z06" look.

Soon afterward, I met up with some great local people who had awesome rides of their own: Central Valley Camaros (CVC Fresno). They are awesome and have given me plenty of ideas and advice about my new addiction.

Got another quick mod with the help of my CVC friend Revo1: Matte black gill inserts. Subtle, but adds a lot too.

Then we went to Camaro 5 Fest II. What an amazing experience that was. I would be going again this year for sure if it wasn't so far away from where I live. Naturally, though, seeing all of those other awesome Camaros gave me plenty of ideas for even more mods!

I ended up getting 2 mods installed right there at the Fest:

Interior "Ghost Armor" on the dash/console to prevent scratches, dust, etc.

...And one of my favorite "mods"...my engine cover signed by Mr. Scott Settlemire, the F-Bod Father himself!

I also swapped the amber turn signal bulbs with some Stealth bulbs, which is exactly what it sounds like:

(Stealth on the left, stock on the right)

They were installed by my buddy "Atlas" (on the C5 forums) in about 2 minutes. It's another easy, subtle change that makes a big difference:

AFTER

But by FAR the biggest mod that I acquired from Camaro 5 Fest II was my ACS T2 Ports! I met Joseph at the Advanced Composite Specialties booth and he gave me a good deal on them, so I brought them home to have them painted black to match the stripes and installed (no WAY was I going to do any cutting to the front fascia myself...)

But I'm glad I pulled the trigger on them. It really set my CGM apart:

They came with a bracket that allowed me to keep the factory DRL's:

Soon after that I did another quick, easy mod that makes a big difference in my opinion- "RS" embroidered headrests. I can't believe this isn't available as an option!

Brandon at Saints Motorsports hooked it up with the install, literally next-day turnaround.

After making several appearance mods, it was time to make some changes to the sound. Let's face it...the stock V6 sounds like an angry hybrid most of the time ...and with Celeste looking meaner, it was time to sound meaner as well.

I did several months of research, watching videos, asking around, etc. One of the members of CVC ("ElPatoFeo" on C5) had an exhaust on his V6 that sounded amazing every time he took off, and as far as I'm concerned stands above all others out there- The ARK N-II Performance cat-back exhaust.

I was more than happy to ditch the huge cans my Camaro had been dragging around and add a MUCH better sound!

The old, ugly cans:

The new!

Another one of my friends in CVC ("Riddlemethis" on C5) got the same setup as soon as he heard mine, and we met up for some Camaro Fanfare with our ARK's (all three are V6's):

(Special thanks to "Revo1" for the video!)

For awhile I took it easy on the mods in order to save up for a few more that I really wanted. But it was "show season," so me and several of my CVC friends had some good gatherings all summer while I saved up for more.

2nd Annual California Camaro Meet in Bakersfield:

Reserved "display" parking at our local theatre when Transformers 3 opened:

There was an "Ironhide" look-alike there, too

Hedrick's "Rock the Block" Car Show:

Car show at the Farmer's Market in Sanger, CA:

I was able to do a couple of photoshoots as well. My friend Victor hooked me up with these since he just needed an excuse to take shots of my Camaro:

I also went to Oceano Beach for a photoshoot. It was good times, and passersby enjoyed seeing a row of nice Camaros.

((Sorry for the bad quality on these two...I had to sneak them with my phone (photographer didn't want anyone else taking pictures). But the end result turned out great))

Gives you an idea how far away I was. After the main "formation" shoot we were allowed to shoot whatever we wanted, so naturally those came out much better:

My girl and I. This one's gonna get framed.

Finally, after a few months of saving, it was time for a few more MODS!

The next thing I wanted to do was get the ACS T2 front Splitter to match the ports.

This is me with Brandon from Saints Motorsports with the primered, unpainted Splitter. He has helped with the install of most of my mods (and has done an excellent job).

I was VERY happy with the finished result:

I also had the bottom lip painted matte black to match the Ports and Splitter to tie it all together. Mike at Valens Paint & Body did a great job matching the matte black of the stripes. A very subtle change, but I love the way it looks.

Next on my list was a DRL Harness so my Halos/DRL's could be used simultaneously. The halos were a MUST HAVE on my list when I was ordering my Camaro, and I want them to be used! User "NVMYSS" on these forums was having a group-buy for the exact harness I was looking for, so I jumped on it.

Getting the install done, once again by Brandon at Saints Motorsports...

I also got some plasma bulbs (6k) for the DRL's so they would more closely match the Halo's. On the left is the stock bulb for comparison.

Now, the lights look like this during the day (they're brighter when it's cloudy, morning, dusk, etc. This pic was taken around the brightest time of day):

And like this at night:

The next mod I wanted IMMEDIATELY after it became available to order: a ZL1 spoiler! Ever since the 2010 Camaro came out, I have felt that the stock spoiler was just a liiiittle too small for my taste. I personally don't think the high-wing spoiler is all that bad, but just a liiittle too big. In my opinion, the ZL1 spoiler is ideal for the look I'm going for on Celeste.

First thing's first...getting the stock spoiler off.

Paint damage wasn't that bad at all where the stock spoiler used to be (I've heard some horror stories about how the paint has rubbed away completely underneath), but notice how the stripes don't extend all the way to the end of the trunk lid since they originally continued to the top of the stock spoiler. Problem #1, since the ZL1 spoiler is raised right there.

ZL1 Spoiler unboxed, CGM color-matched, and ready.

Problem #2 was that the RS spoiler requires different holes than the ZL1 spoiler, and the ZL1 spoiler can't be attached with adhesive, just mounting bolts (not that I would necessarily trust adhesive, anyway). Therefore, we had to drill. Easily one of the most painful things to watch...EVER.

With the holes finally drilled and everything measured, there were three holes total that could still be seen with the ZL1 spoiler on. We used some cheap plugs to fill them temporarily and drove (sans spoiler) to the nearby MarSer Designs to look at some stripe options.

Marc at MarSer Designs is LEGIT. He measured the exact length it would take to complete the stripes and went to work.

Before I knew it, the holes had been covered by the extended stripes! That way, when the ZL1 spoiler was mounted, the stripes would continue underneath it but still stop right at the edge of the trunk lid. The holes are almost completely unnoticeable. If you get really, really close to the space underneath the spoiler's brake light you can see the slight indentations, but just barely. Unless you're looking for them, they're invisible.

ZL1 Spoiler installed!

For the brake light, we simply detached the stock third brake light and used a harness that Ofer ("2SSRS" on these forums) offers for just such an occasion.

Side profile shot taken by my friend "sangerbanger58" on these forums for comparison:
