Hey Chris. My dragon slayer was delivered a few days ago. So all the parts are at HKE. i sent Erik an email asking if he could give me an estimate as to when the motor would ship so i could set things up with SNLPerformance. Here is the response i got:

I have too many issues to really nail it down but I will lett you know as things go together and then we will have a good timeline down to a week or two.

Yea, i figured the 3 months quoted was a pipe dream. I know how these things go. I figured take the 3 month rough estimate and double it and that was what i am really expecting.

A couple members here PMd me and said that if Erik says 3 months, it will be 3 months...so much for that.

It has been 3 and 1/2 monts so far. The good news is the last piece of the puzzle is at HKE, the dragon slayer! When ever its done, its done. NO worries, at least i know it will be one stout motor!!!

At least i can still drive my car. Seems to be holding on fine

Jim,

I can set you up with a Monster Twin Disk Clutch, we can even install it for you but I'm sure Steve at Monster can hook you up.
We helped design this bad boy so I know it is as good as they come
I'll be making a thread on the Monster twins soon.

Thanks
Chris

Forgot to mention, we just got the Dynotech OEM replacement shafts finalized the other day and had a customer test one out to 140+ mph in Mexico

Your car was the first one we used the new Dynotech shaft on and we havent looked back yet!

Hey Chris, just saw this thread was bumped. As for the Monster twin, dont need it yet since my RXT just went in.

As for the Dynotech DS. I was doing a 1st thru 4th run on the way to work when the motor issues developed. I ran it hard and at 148 at the top of 4th gear is when i let off, the run was clean but under the deceleration is when i saw the the large could of oil smoke. I know the DS can handle the high speeds. I had it 130 plus at least 10 seperate times with no issues. The longer DS you sent me was even smoother.

Also if you review page one of this thread you can see exactly what i did testing out this GForce setup!!!! In retrospect, i should not have been such a douche putting it thru its paces. I would still be hammering on it with the LS3. HKE seems to be avoiding my email asking for the status, i also want Eriks opinion on drilling the lifter trays to aid in oiling since im going to road course this car.

Huffer, you were right, his 3 month estimate was a pipe dream. its been exactly 4 months now since i got the invoice from HKE and i seem to be getting the "stiff arm".

I did take the car out sat and got into a little dual with a Viper, nothing extreme or illegal but i did push the bad motor pretty hard. Held together fine, i could smell the oil though.

Don't worry it will be worth it, the longer it takes the better it will be. I know you can't wait for that 900+rwhp. have you kept in touch with Drew?

Your shop should be installing your buddies 9" any day. I believe they are just waiting on the driveshaft unless it is there now.

Yea, we talked via PM about a month ago about the pulleys you used in your setup to get the PSI out of the D1. Drew recommends to start out with a 3.85 pulley, he says you were able to get 835whp @11psi. I have done some calc's and talked with procharger. He says it will be tough to get to 12psi with my motor/setup.....??? I guess i will find out, i know my motor will be a big breather!

I will start with a 3.85 pulley and see what we get boost wise, PC says they can then overnight a pulley and will be able to tell exactly what pulley will get me what boost when we have a baseline with the 3.85

Like i said, if i can get 800rwhp with the D1 i will be ecstatic. I will probably stop there since i am going to road course the car rather than drag it....just seems like alot more fun and a much bigger adrenaline rush trying to keep the car on the track. Now to figure out the brakes and oil system and i will be almost set!

My builder told my yesterday that he is trying to get my motor out the door before some others....whatever that means. He says in a few days he will be able to tell me exactly when the motor will ship

It's amazing how verying specs can produce different results. I'd be curious to know the diff. between our engines, they seem to be very similar.
I don't think it's the heads, did he say it was the CAM specs.?

Working on anything new? PM me, I'll be doing mine over the winter.
Now that we have drivetrain to the tranny stabilized I decided I just want to drive my vehicle this summer without any drama. LOL

Well, i couldn't stand it anymore. I drained the oil in the motor and cut the filter in half. I have a magnetic drain plug and also run a filterMag on the filter. I was expecting to see some good chunks but everyting looked pretty good with the oil. Also after i popped teh #5 piston i replaced the spark plug because it cracked. I have driven it weekly a couple miles each week, just around the neighborhood.

So after changing the oil i pulled the #5 spark plug and it looked fine, just a little oil fouled. I also ran the bore scope down into the #5 cylinder and it looks the same as it did months ago. The occasional driving has not seemed to make anything worse.

I took it out yesterday and drove it a good 20-30 miles and was in low boost a few times. No CEL, car ran fine, just smoked a little after getting into boost. I think i will start driving it more frequently. Hopefully my motor will be done soon. Im still trying to figure out if i want to dry sump it or just run a big oil cooler and an Accusump.

Hey Chris, nope not in yet. I talked to Erik on MOnday and he said the LSX block was incorrect...4.165" bores and not 4.125" I dont know if i believe it. He did say my motor is a priority and he will personally assemble it. Whatever! Ii am driving the car more and more often with the bad ringland. Seems to run great

Don't you wish you hadn't paid him now? Proline/Vengeance would have had your engine done for weeks now.

Crazy to have to wait this long.

I am no dry sump expert but it's a different crank for dry sump....can you retro it onto a rEgular crank?

You are correct Huff, you are no dry sump expert You are thinking of the Z06 dry sump. I have a system in mind from ARE (Armstrong Racing Engineering) It keeps the A/C in tact and the scavange pump bolts to the pass side cyl head and runs a bracket to power the pump off the serpentine belt.

Its about 3 grand for the setup. I think its overthinking my whole setup. I just want to road course the car to have some fun monthly. I am going with a big oil cooler and 3 qt accusump and will run aftermarket oil press gauges and oil temp gauges. I plan on also datalogging while on the road course. If the motor does starve for oil i will have the current LS3 sleeved and forged/stroked and plan on a road course setup with high compression and drysump. Its nice to always have a back up! Thanks for your input, i respect what you have been through in you build and welcome your inputs!

Crazy to have to wait this long.
Hind sight is 20/20. I do not regret this. Erik is building me a great motor!

My plans have shifted to the road course so that make it easier....no need for an F1x now. I found a track an hour away.

You were right however, i was smoking crack to think an ETIC of 3 months was realistic. I am learning how civilians do things since retiring.....tell them what they want to hear, not how it really is!

Whatever!!! I drove the broke ass car today 17 miles and hit 8 psi on the boost gauge.....sure a big oil cloud exhumed from the exhaust on let off but it was damn fun!

I do believe with this LS3 block i will contract Proline for the build! I cant stand being lied to! I just dont understand it???????

Two things...proline/vengeance have been awesome to deal with and if you think the military is a bastion of efficiency then they clearly brainwashed you.

It isn't civilians....it's certain shops that have a reputation for doing this yet people go to them anyways.
