Hagerty insurance is a joke
I just got off the phone (mind you I am in Afghanistan and phone calls arent as easy here) with a completely rude asshole from Hagerty. I applied for their insurance yesterday and today my dad gets a call from them telling him that they wont insure my ZL1 because I want to drive it more than 3,500 miles a year and my daily driver is more than 5 years old. What kind of BS is that. They want me to pay almost $2500 a year to only drive 3500 miles, I might as well throw a dollar out my window every mile I drive. If you were thinking of going with them I would think twice.

The real question is why would you call a classic car insurer for a new car?

Haggerty insurance insures classic/collector cars that are driven low miles. You're a joke for this thread.

My '69 SS is insured for $50k and only cost $375 a year with hagerty. I had a '68 that I totaled about 5 years ago, Hagerty paid 100% of the agreed value with no problems. Personally, I love Hagerty.

Hagerty is a company.
Hagerty is in business to make money. They know what the risks are for a new Camro let alone a ZL1.. My 65 years old Olds 88 costs $150.00 a year to insure.

I have my 2011 insured through them. I have an agreed amount with them for what I paid for the car plus coverage on all the mods done to it also. I still pay less than if I went through a normal insurance company. Now they did ask about my daily driver, and it is an 05. But they said it was fine. And I don't know if it's because this is my 4th car insured through them, but I have no complaints.

Had same experience. Got rejected because I drive a 97 GMC daily. I dont even put 2000 miles a year on my daily driver but Hagerty's position is if your regular driver is past a certain age it will be more apt to break down causing you to drive the car they are insuring for pleasure only. I had my IROC insured with them for years and found them to be great and very affordable. They did require the car to be garage kept when not in use also in my policy I had with them. I believe they only worry about what age your daily is when you ask to insure a new car because they didnt care what I had when I went to insure the IROC

Assuming you are in the service, (thank you very much!), why not USAA ?

Call Grundy no limitation on miles per year you just need to have a newer primary vehicle.
The best thing is your car is insured for an agreed value not market value. So if you insure the ZL1 for $65k and it's totaled you get $65k. I have been with Grundy for 9 years 1969 Z28 2001 Z28 2010 Camaro 2006 Haulmark Enclosed car hauler Sean

I used to have insurance through allstate, and I didnt have a problem with them, but I was curious about all these esurance commercials so I decided to go online and see what the deal was, I have done this in the past with other companies and the rates were always comparable to my allstate policy, so why change?
With allstate i was paying 140$ a month for full coverage on 2 vehicles. With esurance I pay 300$ every 6 months for full coverage on 2 vehicles. It's worth checking out. |

I did end up going with USAA, my rate was ridiculous with them at first but after talking to the lady and her realizing that my car is a limited production car she transfered me to their collectors car insurance people, it is not actually USAA but it is through them, their price was half of what Hagerty wanted. I was going to check out Grundy but decided to check USAA first and for the price they are giving me I didn't bother checking with Grundy.

Ive checked out USAA recently and they were about 400 a year less expensive than Nationwide on my 2 cars. They adjust their rate based in how many miles you drive a year, so this would make a ZL1 less expensive if you only drive it as a second car. Unfortunately, they were approximately $700 higher than Nationwide for almost the same coverage on my home, since its bundled with my auto at nationwide, so right now I'm staying with them.

I switched from USAA to Geico through Navy Federal Credit Union. Saved $600 year switching with 3 vehicles.
05 Trailblazer 93 Silverado 12 ZL1 - roughly $800 year by itself. |

Is that for a ZL1, or an SS?

lol, Hagerty is a collector car insurance company. They mainly insure classic cars. They're not a major insurance provider so I'm wondering why you would even bother calling them.

Simple reason when you go with collector car insurance you insure the vehicle for an agreed value not market value so say in 2 years someone hit’s your ZL1 and they deem it totaled and your insurance company comes back and says the car is worth $43k and they write you a check yet you paid $63k total for your ZL1 that is a quick $20k loss. Now factor in say your insurance company has no clue what a ZL1 is and they insure it as an SS (most do as the ZL1 does not come up in the system yet my Allstate agent showed me they had no classification for the ZL1 just the SS and V6 Camaro) so now you have a ZL1 based on SS rates and SS value. With Collector car insurance you agree to some special terms. 1. Not your primary vehicle of transportation 2. You have a reliable newer mode of transportation 3. You have a garage to store your car 4. Some collector car insurance companies will limit you to miles per year. 5. Your collector car is insured to an “AGREED VALUE” if you sign up and state your car as say $65k value this is what the agreed value will be this is what you will be paid if your car is totaled. 6. Lower rates I have been using Grundy collector car insurance for many years I currently have 3 vehicles (I had 4) and a car hauler insured through them. I have no limitations on my miles per year I can drive they do not check. The stipulation is I must have a garage to store the vehicles and I must have a primary mode of transportation that is reliable. Now if my 2001 Z/28 is totaled on the way to say getting service or a car show Grundy will cut me a check for $35k, if I had say State Farm they would end of basing the value on a car that is 11 years old and cut me a check for $5k. With an investment of $60k a year on a ZL1 why would you not buy collector car insurance to me the peace of mind knowing my car is insured for the actual value not a retail value is worth it for me plus the rates are cheaper to me it’s a no brainer. I have a zero deductible $500k liability/collision Car/ Agreed value/Payment per year 1969 Z/28 $75k (value) $715 year 2001 Z/28 $35k (value) $375 year 2010 Camaro $32k (value) $325 year 2006 Haulmark 24x8.5 enclosed car hauler $7k (value) $62 year If I had a ZL1 she would be under a collector car insurance policy in a heartbeat no way I would let the normal Allstate, Geico, State Farm, ect… insure the car then come to find out that they have it classified as a Camaro SS and in the event something happens I my value is cut in half, of even if they have the ZL1 listed in a year or two from now it’s only worth say $45k.

I’m sorry you had to go through that, but maybe you could look elsewhere for good rates? I’m shopping for insurance at the moment myself (just received classic car auto insurance quotes through the AARP Hartford) and I’ve been offered a discount for being 55 (applies to anyone over 50, really). Looks like I’ve found myself a new provider.

classy postBTW ZL1 is a collector car. FYI most ZL1's are driven low miles. Few are daily drivers.

go through your regular insurer. Make sure the policy shows ZL1 - they might rate you as a SS because they don't have it in the system or they have no idea. Some com[panies insure for replacement value. I pay about 900/yr - I declared 5,000 miles/yr but nobody checks. Unfortunately I had 2 small claims($1500 each) on the policy last year (1 comprehensive and 1 collision) so it might have been even cheaper.

What I will also do is park it from November to March probably and just keep Comprehensive and Theft on it. I expect to shave 2-300 from the total price so I end up with $6-700 per year in insurance (as i won't drive in the winter)
