2012 Can't burn out or power brake

I've only had my 2012 ss automatic (L99) for a couple of months. Tried power braking today to ready for visit to the track. Held brakes, punched accelerator and nothing. Engine idle stayed about 1000 and car acted as if I wasn't pushing on the accelerator at all. Put in M, set to M1, turned off both tracking control systems (button in center console, hit it 2x and lights show disengaged). Have not been very impressed with the regular burn out (only a few feet), but acceleration seems good. Will try the fuse pull tonight to see if it makes a difference.

Hold down the Traction control button for 8 to 10 sec don't just push it twice. This will turn all the nannies off. Then punch it and hit the brakes to lock up the fronts. These have big brakes so if you hit them to hard there just going to lock them all up

That seemed to work for the power braking...what's a nannie? And where is the 8 second hold documented? I couldn't find it in the manual. Is it in a service manual, or just undocumented?

LOL... just a term used on the forum meaning traction control, stabilitrack or any other driver assist item. Another nannie would be Launch Control on the manuals.

Download the manual here
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33993

Driving and Operating 8-37 documents it. You hold the TC button until both light indicators say off. Which is about 8 seconds AFAIK.

thanks! blew right past it...I had been hitting the button 2x which visually acts identical, but obviously works totally different. I am still stumped why some can smoke the tires without power braking and mine barely chirp...I did the fuse pull and no help...any ideas?

YOur not going to be smoking the tires unless you power brake or unless your FI and have the power just to bake them off. They will chirp or spin for a while from a dig but then they will hook and you will be on your way down the street.

Because they really can't.. Heck I've forgot to hold the button down at the track with water down and can't spin the tires... You must do this or they won't spin... it just bogs down.

But be carefull there are many stories of people who like to drive in this mode and end up doing something crazy and crashing their car into curbs and stuff.

Probably a safety feature -- when the brakes are being applied, the PCM doesn't allow throttle. (this is probably defeated when the safeties are disabled)

Remember the old Audi and Toyota "issue" where people were pressing on the gas and brake at the same time, and claiming "unintended acceleration" where the car kept going, even when "I had my foot pressing hard as I could on the brake!" ? Programming like this is intended to stop those kinds of claims.

Welcome to the new Nanny Nation!
