ZL1 price gouging?

So today I went down to the dealership to pick up my green slips, when I see a 2013 ZL1 on the showroom floor. I decide to go take a closer look at it and when I look at the price, I see this:

Do you believe that? A $10,000.00 market adjustment. I asked a sales person about the extra ten thousand dollars and he told me that the vehicle was very rare, because there were only 69 made.

I then laughed at him, told him that was not true and turned and walked out.

Is this common practice to mark up a vehicle like this, just because it is rare?

The dealer markup is simple economics: supply and demand

While we all know the "only 69 made" is total BS, just tell the salesman to look at the VIN - I'd love to see his answer to that one.

I hope it rots there with that 10K markup.

I read in one of the other posts that the dealer isn't allowed to do that and GM has penalties if they are caught. I can't say that I believe that. I had one dealer tell me that they were small and would have to pay over sticker just to get one to sell and then mark it up even more to sell, like I believed him. I said thanks anyway I'll go to a dealer that charges sticker and left.

The days of over Msrp are over. There are twenty for sale on eBay and a large numbers sitting on lots now. Muscle car season will also wind down soon. Give it a month and we will see deals near or at invoice.
