They're both reliable. I owned a Frontier crew cab and it was the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. Had it for 3 years and not a single problem and this is coming from a perfectionist. The Tacoma is also just as reliable base on opinions from many friends and relatives who owned them. The Tacoma pre-runner crew cab seems to be roomier especially for the rear passengers. My next truck will be a Tacoma. You can't go wrong with either.

Yea, I think I may be leaning to the Nissan. I test drove both today and the Nissan had better get up and go and felt comfortable. The Toyota was nice but they had me drive a fully loaded double cab as they didn't have any access cabs. And while the Toyota has a better gauge cluster and center console I know that if they had the style I wanted it would have been an exact swap with the Frontier.

Additionally, the one Frontier I like they're offering for 5k below MSRP where as the Toyota isn't willing to play ball on price.

Yeah, Toyota very rarely have nice deals. The frontier does have the more outdoory look and sportier feel IMO. The only single thing I didn't like about it was the wind noise from the roof rack (if u can call it that) at freeway speeds. $5k below MSRP, you can't go wrong.

The local has a crew cab black pro4x titan with leather, etc. That is a neat little truck.

You can get a xlt f150 crew cab for the same money though..... just sayin.

I really like the frontiers and the tacomas, and would be driving one of those 2 right now.... But the price of "midsize" trucks just doesn't make sense. For 1500-3000 more, you get more than twice the truck in all aspects with a full size. Not to mention better resale.

Better order an extra frame if you get a Toyota. Personally, I wouldn't get either.

I understand that, but I've said a couple of times here, I'm not comfortable in the fullsize trucks. The F150s are not tiny trucks and neither are the Silverado/Sierra, Titan, or Tundra. Again, I'd take an SVT Raptor in a heartbeat but even used they are over 40k used

I have heard this repeatedly from people, but from the people who have them (my best friend has an '06), they've never seen it or mentioned it.

Granted the one I drove didn't have a roof rack, but at 65 MPH on the highway, I was stunned just how quiet she was on the inside as compared to the Tacoma where at 65 the soft spoken salesman could barely be heard.

I meant to say Frontier in my first post. Sorry. I like them, they are neat little trucks.

Local Ford dealer has a 2010 raptor with 36k for 37k.

It's cool.

The Nissan dealership was surprisingly deal chasers. I basically told my salesman this morning:

"Look, I'm gonna be honest, I went and drove a Tacoma right after I left your dealership. Toyota told me after running my credit that they could get me a X% loan. Unfortunately, they didn't have the body style I wanted and they were not willing to bend on price. Additionally, they were pretty much dicks. So heres my proposal:

You get me:
25k out the door (after tax, title, etc)
X% loan, or lower
and my monthly payments less than Y

And I'll take the truck home today if you can have it ready"

He basically responded:

"I'm gonna call you back in 2 hours"

Two hours later he goes "my boss signed off on the price, we got you lower than X% however, with just the trade in, unless you add some downpayment, your payments won't be Y but Y+$17"

I just said "you got two outta the three, and the third isn't horribly over. Deal"

So I brought home my 2012 Nissan Frontier in Metallic Blue (HEY GM! This is a blue we want!)

It's a been a blast so far.

I laugh when I hear people say "buy American". If they look around everything they own, 90% of it all was made somewhere else.

It's hard to be competative with countries that keep attracting our businesses with their idiotic low taxes and foolishly reasonable regulations.

I'll say I'm not a fan of the Tacoma. At least not in the Northern states. My friend had brought his 2 year old Taco in for service and they wouldn't let him leave with it. The frame had rusted to death in only 2 years. They bought it back from him at a depreciated amount due to mileage and sold him a new one. I've had my Sonoma for 13 years and it has been through hell and back and still gets good mileage and is as strong as ever. If those are your only options I'd choose the Nissan.

I had a 98 and an 02 frontier. Both great trucks. Nissan is a good choice for a mid size truck.

Sent from my abacus using precise finger movements......

Great looking truck! Congrats, love that color. I have a friend who is one of those hunter/fisherman types, and used to be extremely closed minded when it came to "Jap crap". Until he drove my Titan. 2 days later he traded in his S10 for a Frontier, and hes never been happier with a vehicle purchase.

The Tacoma has been the number one selling compact pickup in the country for over 5 years for a reason. You also get the benefit of 2 years free maintenance and road side assistance with every Toyota purchase.
