the gears in the transmissions are different as to the final drive figures that the car uses by the time it gets to the rear end..............such as the gt 500 made its manual geared so it only needs to switch gears twice in the quarter mile with the same trans as the camaro that shifts three times.......in the quarter.....

BRO YOU LOST ME....I KNOW 3.73 GEARS FOR A AUTOMATIC IN 1ST GEAR WOULD BE TO SHORT SO I THOUGHT THAT BOTH THE MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC STARTED IN 2ND GEAR SO YOU WOULD BLOW THE ENGINE...

On a ZL1 you have the option of starting the auto in 1st gear or 2nd gear.

in D mode, it's 2nd.

On M mode, or S (sport - hold down right paddle for 2 seconds in M) it will start in 1st also and change gears automatically. And hold gears longer to proper shiift points. Hassle free quickest way to a good ET. The auto in 1st is as low final ratio as the manual IMHO. Wowzer!
