To deliver or Not to deliver that is the ???
Okay so looking for opinions. Just purchased a 2013 Camaro 2SS M6. Dealership offered to drive the car 3hrs to my house should I let them deliver it and run the risk of some random guy running it to hard or should I just be safe and go and pick it up. I'll admit I'm not that great of driver when it comes to driving man. Trans. Being that this is my first M vehicle. What would you do?
Thanks in advance for the comments.. |

You will never get another chance to spend that amoung of time learning how to shift.
Also, before you take delivery, see if you can find a friend, a good friend, that can teach you how to shift with their car. Now, if you are a good friend, you will pony up on his clutch should you fry it. But you shouldn't. You can also ask the dealership to have someone there very experienced with a manual, hopefully with a Camaro, show you the ropes. I have an automatic, L99, V8, and the last rig I had with a manual was a 1969 F-100 Ford pickup with a 390cu.in big block V8, and it was a 4 speed with a "creeper" gear. Jogging that memory now makes me realize why I was adament about an automatic, but there are times I do wish I went manual, but that is what the paddle shifters are for I guess. Good luck, you can do it guy! |

Pick it up... my son recently learned a manual after about 1 1/2 hrs of practice.
If you have some experience already you'll be fine!

Take your friend with stick experience along for the pick-up. He can give you the pointers, and take over if you still don't feel comfortable yet. At least you'll be in the car for the delivery. Don't let some slicked-down newbie dealer be the one to break-in (or down) your car...

A lot of the guys that run transport are old dudes with nothing else to do. They get to drive a LOT of cars. They don't give two shits about a new Camaro any more than they do a Malibu.

If it's only 3 hours out you're better off picking it up. Gives you a chance to bond with the car and love it that much more.

The dealer I bought mine from delivered it, 1-1/2 hour drive. Two 70 something year old guys showed up with it. I threw them $20 a piece and saved myself a half day. Granted my car was used but the guys delivering your car aren't going to beat on it. It's up to you whether you want to take the maiden voyage or not.
