Look at this post in the V8 and V6 Transmission forum- Poll: Project clutch master cylinder/second gear grind ( 1 2 3 ... Last Page)
IDEALG

The 5th Gen's have a mastercylinder (not really a slave) under the clutch pedal. This member has modified it to provide more volume when depressed and it appears to alleviate the 1-2 shift grind.

Some people are also separating the reservoir for the hydraulics (brakes and clutch) to help keep the fluid cleaner, etc...

I just changed out the m/c and I'm really excited about the improved shifting!!

And then there is the cost of installation... .
But I'm sure this will be in my tran's future at some point.

In the meantime- don't over look the IDEALG modified clutch master cylinder. That combined with clean fluid (surprisingly dirty after just 9K miles), has really improved (OK- done away with) my fast-shift grind so far.
Definitely worth doing IMHO.

I'm taking the TSB I found online and having the dealer my buddy works at replace everything. But does the dealer or GM use these parts now or they just replace with a new set of the current one we have?

He's right from what I've heard and read. It's because of the upgraded wheels. Who knew when we bought it that it would have extra goodies?

It's not just the RS that got it. It's all M6 V6's.

Interesting and it is a service bulletin from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration), but I'm not sure if it qualifies as a GM Technical Service Bulletin- which pretty much is a factory "recall" and usually involves thousands of vehicles.

But if it gets your trans rebuilt, great!

On this topic in the V8 & V6 trans forum, Tracy has stated that Rx Performance could offer upgraded trans/or adaptor plates for a different trans, if demand were strong enuff.

See here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5772138

Gentlemen, do we have any requests?

The manual transmission on our 5th gen Camaros just is not up to the job.

Here is a fact for you, the stock tranny on these cars, is UNDER rated for the power output of the LLT.

All the M6 cars, except maybe the newest 2012s and 13s with the carbon syncros, ALL grind 1st to 2nd gear. If yours doesn't grind, you probably just cannot shift fast enough.

Any more power we make, generates more of a problem. The limit is right about what we can make with bolt ons.

All the m6 Forced Induction guys are having to replace their clutches. Clutch, I can understand, that is something that will need to be upgraded on every heavily modded car.

So what is the solution? A built tranny?

In addition, our gear ratios SUCK! 1st gear has a 4.48 ratio! The SS on the other hand has a 3.0! 4.48 is just too damn high! It makes the car a nightmare to launch and I have yet to see ANY M6 car pull better than a 2.0 60'. In fact, has any car done better than my 2.0? Which was on stock tires...

Help me out here people! How do we solve these problems?
There's nothing wrong with our first gear ratio...its perfect. Hit over 40 something MPH before shifting to second. Launches me hard. Can spin the wheels from a 7 to 10 mph roll on, and spin at will from a standing start. Whats wrong with our manual 1st gear??

SS and V6 M6's have the same issues. The dealer has already verified everything and now just playing the waiting game. Mine really doesn't have this issue to bad. So I'm just using this as a freebie repair at my buddies dealership.

Imo its too high of a ratio which makes the car extremely hard to launch without wheel spin.

How can we get more details on this TSB? The summary isn't very descriptive.

Bump...any vendors willing to step up to the plate? Or willing to make one for me? I'm looking to rehaul my tranny this summer. Either take the stock one and get it built, or swap in for the v8 tranny.
