I like what GM did with the new "z/28" or "z28" or "trailer queen". I pray GM understands and will fill the 1LE --- (154hp)--- ZL1 performance gap by splitting the difference with a LS7 ~505hp option. Maybe call it the 1LE Stage II...

I'd like to see a 1LE Option with an LS7...

I think a 1LE LS7 would have been a wonderful street machine.........probably more streetable than the zl1 (no heat issues)......The trouble with that is the target market......zl1 targets the gt500.........coming out with ANOTHER HP camaro that would be slower in all dressed form than the zl1 makes no sense......as Scott said, the zl1 was actually the z28 but things got complicated..........people are really arguing over a badge.........want a HP street machine?........get a zl1

thank you for reminding us, the LT1 is coming once the Corvette test-bed is satisfied.

Maybe 3400lb LT1 Camaros will be rumbling for 2015: ~450hp/tq

Gm would not invest millions ans millions in an engine that doesnt stay for at least 10years...The Camaro SS 2016 will have the LT1.

V6? I don't think so for a ZR1. Unless you had some huge displacement, 420 was pretty awesome in the TT 3.6L GM just announced. So there won't be any 6 cyclinder with any turbos or superchargers that will rival the LT1 let alone be enough for a ZR1 to go up against the Fiat.

I believe you're right in this. THough the LT1 "might" be used for the 6th gen Z/28 as it produces the same amount of torque as an LS7 under 4000 rpms. I may wait to see what a 6th gen looks like before I pull the trigger. Idk. I was hoping we could get a non track packed car with around 500HP in the 5th Gen. I know Im wishing on it and GM wont make one. Hopefully this 6th Gen will look as good as ours now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe GM has to do a full emissions, safety, crash certification process for every engine/car combo they produce. Which is seriously time-consuming and expensive. It's not like the old days where you could order the combo you wanted and they could build it (wish it was like that still). Dropping an LS7 into a 1LE just doesn't make economic sense when you consider they're already at the end of the 5th gen run and are gearing up for the 6th gen.

It works to make a new model like the Z/28 which sets the wheels-in-motion (no pun intended) for this category of car in the 6th gen. That puts in place the development team, the department, the budget and all the necessary corporate mechanisms to have this car become dominant in racing. Production cars that are dominant in racing sell street cars.

I find it HIGHLY interesting that Dodge has already declared they're working on a direct competitor to the Z/28. You KNOW that Ford isn't just sitting there watching all this and doing nothing. Do I detect the first breezes of a new manufacturer's championship series in the near future? I don't think the timing of all this is a coincidence. We are in very interesting times for auto enthusiasts.

Im definately with you on this. I believe we'll see a Z/28 that is produced for the masses unlike this one thats currently coming out.

As for Dodge, I believe we'll be seeing the Barricuda evolve into their track car as it was used in the Trans Am racing circuit in 1970. They know the Challenger is WAYYYY too big for the track.

The Z/28 is not a car for the masses and trying to make it one will give us a car like the 4th gen Z28.
