LOWERING SPRINGS

Guys that have them. Which brand do you have? I know many brands say in their description, "Will not work with convertible". Thank you.

1" BMR springs. I believe the only difference between the coupe/convertible is that since our cars our heavier we net a slightly lower drop. I never did measure the before and after on mine to verify that. Anyway, ride is a bit stiffer and feels like it bounces off the bump stops on the harsh bumps, but I'm pretty sure thats par for the course. Anyone with them, will probably tell you coil-overs are the way to go. I'm considering that option now, probably a spring time project... slight pun intended..

I am looking into hotchkiss. They are specific to convertibles, v6 and v8, and a few members have them and they look great. A vendor here (Ohio speed) has them on sale now for $223, free shipping. I'm very tempted. Do a search and you'll find so e nice pictures. Good luck with whatever you go with!

Thanks guys! I've been PMing Ohio Speed about the Hotchkis. I called a local shop about an install and I'm waiting to hear back how much they'll charge. I did my other mods myself, but I don't feel comfortable messing with the suspension.

Installing springs is easy! Done it a few times! Easier if you have a friend help! Just go slow and pay attention to how things come apart and go back!

That is a great deal.

I bought Hotchkis for my vert, installed them myself, too easy. Haven't driven it yet though.

Bought the Hotchkis springs from Ohio Speed ($223 shipped). The performance shop is 5 miles from my house and they're charging me $200 for the install. Thanks guys!

If there isn't anything mentioned in the instructions, search on here about "bushing timing". Very important step after lowering. And you will need an alignment, which is when they would time the bushings.

Heres one thread, but I'm pretty sure there is one from Pedders as well. Very informative.

when doing just the coils do you have to have it realigned? changing the coils changes your alignment??.

Im no expert, but From what some vendors post, whenever there is a change in the height of the car, the bushings have to be timed and the alignment done.

Definitely need the alignment. My car had 400 miles on it when I lowered it and it was out of spec when it went on the rack. Not horribly, but out of spec.

Hotchkis springs are the way to go, great ride quality and awesome handling. Anything more than an inch drop on the stock struts and expect to eventually blow out a strut. If anyone wants to be lower than an inch go with coilovers.

The BMR kit is what I am running. Super easy to install and as mentioned beofre the ride is a bit stiffer but well worth the look.

The Hotchkis springs are very comfortable and provide great handling. Most people dont notice a change in ride quality but do notice a huge improvement in handling.
I believe Dunerider swapped out his Eibach's for the Hotchkis and picked up his speed in an autocross as well as making his wife happy again in daily driving situations.

I have yet to get mine put on. The weather has been crappy here and my Camaro will stay in the garage until it breaks. I can't wait to get them installed. Maybe I'll make an appointment in a couple of weeks.
